Meyer is not a good example here. He's such an awful guy that he's out of work, despite being a clear winner. His locker room at UF was a complete mess and he was fired by Jacksonville, in part, for kicking a player. Coincidentally (or not?), Durkin came up under Meyer. Pratt died 40 years ago. Thankfully, player safety has come a long way since then. Regardless of all this, the Durkin thing is also about the reaction to the player's death. When Durkin was reinstated, players walked out of a team meeting and tweeted against him. He completely lost the team, based on the culture he initially created and the response to the death. Dye never lost his team. As you pointed out, we already have a controversial HC. Is it too much to ask to hire a DC with a clean past? Especially when we just fired a DC with a known history of being abrasive, who, shockingly, had trouble getting along with people at AU.

I'd argue the stats show that the defense was good, if not great. 22nd and 24th out of the last 54 Auburn defenses is not bad. We've had quite a few elite defenses over the years.

I agree the O should be a little better, even with the same QB, but they have a long way to go. Some abysmal performances last season and we need major improvement. Concerning that Thorne was missing screen passes in the bowl game.

The reality is we've signed zero immediate difference makers. Which we desperately need. We are currently 39th in the team portal rankings. We haven't upgraded the most important position on the team, which could use some upgrading. Makes no sense for a team with a talent deficit and a coach whose primary strength is recruiting. We have signed some nice depth pieces and a couple possible starters. I'm interested to see if we sign any other Bama players. This a rare opportunity, with real talent hemorrhaging in our back yard. We need to take advantage.

I like the hire. Much better than falling back on Austin as OC. Nix has been part of some very good offenses lately and hopefully that rubs off. More than anything, I'm glad Freeze has his guys. He's going all in on himself and that's how it should be. It didn't work with Harsin but nothing would have worked with Harsin. There are no more excuses about the staff, so here we go.

Agree. The offense has been a complete train wreck for years now but RB has consistently been the strength. They've done about as well as you can with a terrible OL, no passing threat, and teams subsequently stacking the box. Why did we sign zero RB's this class? Because it was the only position group on the entire team that is well stocked with legit talent. Crazy to hold that against Caddy.

I've looked around the internet a bit on the Caddy thing. A lot of pious people are suddenly very concerned with Caddy's privacy right after they are able to find out what happened haha. Personally, I'm glad there aren't more details on here. Most of us know roughly what happened and no one here knows the entire truth. Best to move on. The whole thing sucks because we love Caddy and Zac and these are real people with real lives. And the turbulence is not what anyone wants in the offseason. But strictly concerning the program, this will not make or break affect Freeze's tenure. And Kelly is an excellent addition.
