  1. Here's the deal. What Trovon did isn't going to go unnoticed. I'd bet a hundred dollars to a donut that he will be on a staff somewhere in the SEC next year. I hope it's with Auburn.
  2. You can teach someone x and o's. It's not a rare skill. The personality that makes a great recruiter is not really teachable. And no coach can teach somebody who can't catch at the college level how to catch. Trovon needs a place on the staff, but you can't just fire a good guy to make room either.
  3. They'll be all over the south soon enough.
  4. These places have hundreds of people in them every time you stop. It's incredible, and you can guarantee somebody in the car will want to stop when you pass one. My hat's off to the marketing genius who stopped at a convenience store one day and said "You know, this place would be a gold mine if we just made it the size of a walmart, sold cheap ice and gas, with giant spotlessly clean bathrooms, and didn't allow truckers." Sadly, I would have laughed in his face had he come to me for an investment.
  5. Looks like we are banking on the transfer portal again. Given how it played out last year, that's not all bad.
  6. Rattler has talent. He also brings with him locker room cancer. Think John McEnroe as a QB. No thanks.
  7. The CDC finds itself attempting to defend the indefensible--making people who have superior immunity from a previous infection (at least according to some good Israeli research) get a vaccine anyway. This has inspired them to do some truly embarrassing research which resulted in this paper (also released on Friday) https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7044e1.htm?s_cid=mm7044e1_w This graphic and statement summarizes their findings: Among COVID-19–like illness hospitalizations among adults aged ≥18 years whose previous infection or vaccination occurred 90–179 days earlier, the adjusted odds of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 among unvaccinated adults with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection were 5.49-fold higher than the odds among fully vaccinated recipients of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine who had no previous documented infection (95% confidence interval = 2.75–10.99). Now they know this will be widely reported and understood to mean that you if you have had covid but are unvaccinated, you are five times more likely to get infected again than somebody who is vaccinated. But if you actually look at the study, it says no such thing. They are comparing 2 ratios. Now I've taught high school math before, and I know firsthand ratios tend to confuse people. This seems to be the intent. You can make a ratio out of anything, but they don't always mean anything. You can make a ratio out of the number of people hospitalized with covid and compare that to the number of hot dogs consumed on Tuesday. You get a perfectly valid ratio, but does it actually tell you anything? That's kind of what they have done here. They have made a ratio out of the number of people who were hospitalized with covid and compared it to the number of people who were hospitalized with "covid-like symptioms." So let's look at unvaccinated people who have had a prior case of covid first. They found 89 people who were hospitalized again with covid out of a total of 1020 who were hospitalized with "covid-like symptioms". So roughly 8% of the total had covid. For people who were fully vaccinated, they found 324 who were hospitalized with covid out of a total of 6005 who were hospitalized with "covid-like symptioms". In this group, 5% had covid. Now if you follow what they are doing, they are saying fewer people tested positive who were vaccinated, so that is somehow better. But is it? There are two ways you can get a lower percentage. You can have fewer people hospitalized with covid. I think we can all agree that is meaningful. But you can also get a lower percentage by having more people hospitalized with "covid-like symptoms" And that really has no relevance at all to the question at hand. What does being hospitalized with the flu tell you about your immunity to covid? Nothing. And if more people in the unvaccinated group had been hospitalized with the flu, would that have somehow been "better". Even though it made the ratio "better". This is just a meaningless ratio. If it tells you anything, (and I don't think it does), it would be that fully vaccinated folks have a weakened immune response to other respiratory illnesses. But that graphic is all that will be ever reported out of this study and it will be repeated ad nauseum. And that is all before you get into the "adjusted odds" they used to translate 8% compared to 5% into 5x the chance of testing positive. That is not fully explained, but one can assume given the shoddiness of the premise, the adjustments can't be trusted either. This is an excellent example of why so many people don't trust the CDC anymore. This stuff ticks me off. It just undermines their credibility on everything. If they can't find valid reasons, why can't they just admit people who have had covid don't need to be vaccinated? TLDR: study from the CDC does not say what is being widely reported
  8. I refuse to believe that he has changed, but he has gotten smarter when it comes to public relations. He probably has learned to lean on the advice of somebody more mature than he is, like his 12 year old daughter.
  9. Eku is a junior. Could have 2 more years if he wants with the covid year. He has been an awesome addition.
  10. This will be a challenging game for sure. But I feel good about our chances. Their QB Calzada looked good against Bama in the 1st half, and again on the last drive. But before Bama he was a 50% passer, and he barely cracked 50% against Missouri and South Carolina after the Bama game, and those are 2 awful defenses. A&M needs to run the ball effectively to win, and I think our defense can step up and stop them. We need to do whatever we have to to stop their run game, and make Calzada beat us. (You know, like our opponents do to us). He also throws a fair number of interceptions. If the offense can get us 28 points, we should win. 2 turnovers and a kick return killed Bama, and we have to avoid that. Looking at the box score, you'd assume Bama won. If I had to bet, I'd take us and the under.
  11. I'll take "What do men lie about for $500, Alex.
  12. With the new offense, punter fatigue is no longer a problem😁
  13. I know that LSU contract was here a minute ago. What happened to it?
  14. What Lane said....blah, blah, blah, blah......what Lane was thinking....damn it, if we would have won that game, I could of gotten the LSU job... Kiffen will never change.
  15. Much respect for the defense in the 2nd half. They won the game. I said we needed 21 in the 2nd half to win and we got 3. And we won anyway. Awesome performance. Offense shined in the 1st half, thank god.
  16. I'm feeling good about it, because we have the better defense. We need the offense that played Arky to show up and score 50, because Ol Miss will score some points. Matt Corral is scary, but if we can stuff the run we will be fine. Bo shines, and we win by 14.
  17. Mandates rub me the wrong way, but I can see both sides of this one. What really bugs me is that there is not an exemption if you have had covid. It's easily determined with a quick blood test, so you can't even lie about it. It's not about the science anymore when you won't allow someone with superior immunity to skip the shot.
  18. Well, there's always funny KIffen videos. Daniel Tosh's Kiffen's Krimson Korner is classic, but not very family friendly. This one of Saban chewing out Kiffen is hilarious.
  19. Well, it's possible he has matured and grown as a person in the last decade. But my money would be on he's just learned to fake sincerity a little better and now knows what to say and not say in public. Underneath the facade, I'm sure he is the same old weasel. You get some pretty funny stuff if you google why do people hate Lane Kiffen. For instance, this, after he was hired at Bama: Because he’s the perfect bad guy in college football, it’s almost impossible to find Lane Kiffin fans. In fact, is there any doubt that Kiffin has the lowest approval rating of any player or coach in college football? There isn’t, right? That means Lane Kiffin is the most hated man in college football. Most people who find themselves disliked by the entire country undertake some sort of public relations campaign to make over their image. You’ll see them for several weeks or months in a row at charity events, photographed alongside sick children in hospitals, buying a disabled person a new wheelchair, they’ll come out against cancer in particular and death in general. They do all these things to burnish their tarnished images. They do all these things because people are dumb and if you claim to not like the things they don’t like either — Wait, I hate cancer and death too, Lane Kiffin can’t be all bad! — you either end up better liked or, if you do it well enough, elected President of the United States. But Lane Kiffin does nothing to combat the hate or try to make people like him better. Lane Kiffin doesn’t care about your opinion of him at all. Which, in a manufactured and artificial era, actually makes him one of the most genuine coaches out there. And that makes me kind of like him. Notwithstanding the fact that I’ve grown to like Lane, we all know that Kiffin being fired at Alabama is inevitable. But how? Here are the 11 most likely reasons Lane Kiffin will be fired from Alabama. 1. Attempting to stage a coup against Nick Saban. Lane Kiffin, the least successful former head coach in America to have been in charge of two top twenty programs, attempting to overthrow Nick Saban, the most successful head coach in America, is high comedy. Which means it will probably happen. Meet the coaching version of the Bay of Pigs. 2. Coeds Kiffin was far from a monk during his time in Knoxville. There were quite a few wild nights, including one early morning when the coach’s Lexus, purportedly full of drunk coeds, ended up abandoned in a ditch after crashing off the road. He could get away with all sorts of shenanigans in Los Angeles because of the insanity that goes on the entertainment industry out there. But Tuscaloosa is a long way from LA, both physically and culturally. Plus, we know two things about Alabama coeds: a. they are hot and b. they have low morals This is a great combination. Unless you’re a married man. 3. For leaking news that he’s Alabama’s new coach in waiting. If the rumors are true about Kiffin as coach-in-waiting, you know there’s zero chance that Lane Kiffin could keep this quiet. Can you imagine the Bama fan reaction if Lane Kiffin was Nick Saban’s chosen successor? They’d fire him out of anger at the mere possibility. 4. Recruiting violations. Lane Kiffin already plays loose with recruiting rules and now he’s at Alabama, a school which makes paying recruits an art form. What could possibly go wrong? 5. Because Layla Kiffin goes on Facebook or Twitter and crushes living in Tuscaloosa. Layla hated Knoxville, which is like Paris compared to Tuscaloosa. When she inevitably insults Tuscaloosa, Lane will step up to defend his wife.Having to address the media for the first time to clear up the controversy, Kiffin will say, “My wife was just joking when she said that Tuscaloosa was native American for ‘white trash live here.’ What she meant to say was this, “There are many trashy people of all races living in Tuscalooa.” 6. Making play calls without proper authority. This is 100% going to happen. Alabama will lose a close game on a late play call and it will emerge that Kiffin made the play call without proper authority. Just wait. 7. Talking to Auburn about its head job when Gus Malzahn leaves for the NFL. One of the great things about Lane Kiffin is his complete and total lack of loyalty. When Urban Meyer resigned for the first time at Florida, guess who tried to get the Florida job even though he was Tennessee’s head coach and had spent the preceding year crushing the Florida Gators and Urban Meyer? Lane Kiffin. Is there any doubt that if Gus Malzahn left and Lane Kiffin had a couple of decent years as Alabama’s offensive coordinator, that he’d do everything in his power to get the Auburn job? 8. A Tennessee fan will attempt to shoot him in Neyland Stadium on the Third Saturday in October. Instead of hitting Kiffin, the Tennessee fan, who will be very drunk and using a musket from the 1870’s, will instead hit Saban. Saban will survive — it’s impossible to kill a vampire unless you hit him in the heart with a silver bullet — but Kiffin will be interim coach for the Alabama-UT game. The Crimson Tide, despite being 48 point favorites, will lose by 48. Kiffin will be fired the next morning. 9. In order to keep his wife happy, Kiffin will purchase the Whole Foods franchise rights for Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This will require the rest of his life savings. He will open the store to great fanfare then go immediately bankrupt when Bama fans arrive to discover that Whole Foods doesn’t carry Mountain Dew or bronze Bear Bryant statues. In the subsequent riot, the store will burn down. Kiffin, not having done his due diligence, will have zero insurance. 10. Mike Slive will suspend and fire him. The day Lane Kiffin left for USC Mike Slive smoked a victory cigar. This is remarkable because even Slive, who likes everyone, despises Kiffin. Now Kiffin’s back in the SEC. My kids are watching Star Wars right now and for some reason I can’t get the idea of Mike Slive kicking Lane Kiffin’s ass, Yoda episode 2 of Star Wars style. Slive will be watching Kiffin closely, count on it. 11. For being Lane Kiffin. The thing about Lane Kiffin, as we noted above, is he’s Lane Kiffin. He’s insolent, insubordinate, unlikable, and cocky. That’s a pretty extraordinary collection of character traits. Somehow insulting Bear Bryant. 12. Kiffin will leave to take the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job on the same day that Nick Saban has decided to fire him for doing an awful job as offensive coordinator. If there’s one thing that consistent about Kiffin, it’s that he always manages to fail upwards. Jerry Jones will definitely be hiring him. Just wait.
  20. Just one of the small reasons I hate Lane Kiffen. The guy coaches them to do it. He is so classless. I will root against any team that employs him. I admit he does know how to run an offense though, at least when he has Matt Corral.
  21. Well, I hate to get ahead of ourselves. But it is getting interesting. Bama's wins over Miami and Florida are looking less and less impressive every week. I actually believe we could win out. But take 'em one at a time, and start by beating Ol Miss.
  22. This is the offense I've been waiting for! They stepped up big on the final drive! Props to the whole team!!
  23. Well, this thread didn't age well. 😁
  24. Everybody is going to stack the box against us until we prove we can beat them thru the air. Make 'em pay for stacking the box and the run game will open up. I'm not really worried about the run game if the defense doesn't get to cheat against it. The O line opens holes just fine, just not against an 8 man front.
  25. So, I have shows I have enjoyed even though I know they are not really "good". They are entertaining and fun. Watched Shanara Chronicles recently (Netflix) and I'll put it up there on that list if you like fantasy. And hot women. Poppy Drayton is worth the price of admission alone. And my wife liked the men as well, not that I care.
