  1. When I first saw it I thought it might be a penalty play, but after I thought about it I realized the kicker was a potential tackler if a return was on. Remember on the "Kick Six" return, the Alabama holder, Cody Mandel, had the last best chance to tackle Chris Davis and how many times have you seen a kicker make a saving tackle?
  2. I remember seeing Ed Dyas play. I went to a game at what was then "Cliff Hare" stadium but Dyas was held out of the game because of a broken jaw. We lost that day. It was probably 1959 or !960. He became an orthopedic surgeon after his college football career. I believe this image shows Ed Dyas (Auburn road whites) being chased by Pat Dye (#60) for UGA.
  3. If players have been suspended, doesn't that mean they cannot attend class? If they cannot attend class, would't this eventually effect their eligbility since they would not be making acceptable academic progress? I haven't seen this discussed anywhere else so I decided to post this to see if anyone knows if this could be an issue.
  4. I think "a second" cost the TAAAAAAAAAD the 2013 Iron Bowl!
  5. I remember playing pickup basketball with him at Auburn years ago in the old barn that has since burned down. Don't laugh, Pistol Pete Maravich played in that place. He wasn't a mean guy, I mean he wasn't throwing elbows and knocking people down. He just wanted to play ball. Also, he had the best hand-eye coordination of anybody I have ever been on a court with. You good not bounce pass a ball to him that he couldn't corral while he was cutting to the basket. Of course we weren't playing football so there is that.
  6. I think I remember seeing players walk to the field house, in the bottom left corner of this photo, after games. I think that building housed most of the athletic offices also. Hard to imagine Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley played in this stadium but they must have because they were there for the sixty-nine, seventy, and seventy-one seasons. Their fame probably contributed to the seventy-five version of the stadium that looks much improved.
  7. Like a lot of the truly good ones: Gone too soon!
  8. You are probably correct in your assessment and in the process of quitting he probably established himself as the most hated and reviled former Auburn head coach of all time.
  9. I read that there may be academic issues with him transferring to AU. I wouldn't count RA out of anything. I saw him make some great throws this year and he is a tremendous runner and fierce competitor. I think there is a possiblity that he can develop into a fine SEC QB. A good o-line and a little more emotional maturity may be all he needs to progress. I look at it like this: He looked much better this season than Cam Newton did during his Spring Game at AU. There is no way I imagined how much Cam Newton would improve from that performance, win the Heisman, and become an Auburn legend.
  10. Where did he touch the ball in this video. Clearly he didn't touch it on the way down and the ball was moving away from him on the bounce up. What am I missing here? Is my vision that bad? Did the officials not see this video? Has the video been altered? What?
  11. I dropped out of school (Auburn) in 1969 and got drafted in October of 1970. Went to basic training at Ft.Polk and AIT at Ft.McCellan. Sent to Vietnam in 1971 and came home in 1972. I was one of three in my family (cousins) to go to RVN and sadly I am the only one that came home alive. The two that died were both better people than me and they were both married. That is a burden I carry to this day. Some of what happened is my fault, but I came from a fractured family and it is just hard not to do stupid things when you are 19/20 years old. After the military I returned to school and graduated from Auburn in December of 1975. I worked for (41) years after college. I owe my career to Auburn University and the professors that taught me. Veterans Day and especially Memorial day are hard days for me and I imagine many others on this board.
  12. Not that it matters but I graduated there in December 1975. My dad was an Auburn fan so I became an Auburn fan. Always have been always will be. You almost never meet a bad Auburn fan and it doesn't matter if they attended school there or if they didn't. Call me naive, but I just think that most people that support Auburn are genuinely decent human beings. There really is just something about Auburn and Auburn people.
  13. If this story is true, Harsin is absolutely cooking his future coaching career. If this story is true, something must be wrong with the guy!
  14. CBH has completely misjudged the talent on his roster. The evaluation of the talent level on the O-line is the most egregious error of all and that has left him with no base offense. We can't run the inside zone or the outside zone. We basically can't run the ball leaving us dependent on a young QB that is usually running for his life and is struggling with the passing game. All of the offensive woes are exposing the D to far too many plays on the field and that is beginning to take a toll. The competition continues to get tougher from here. I think most on this board can imagine what the rest of this season holds. My hope at this point, is that the team keeps playing and that all with NFL potential realize their dreams. I thank every last player on the roster for coming to AU and giving everything they have for the team. Auburn football will be back; It will be a while.
  15. I haven't seen this posted on the board. It is always good when a walk-on gets a scholarship. This guy may have to play before this season is done. Link: https://www.al.com/auburnfootball/2022/10/walk-on-quarterback-trey-lindsey-awarded-scholarship-by-bryan-harsin.html Walk-on quarterback Trey Lindsey awarded scholarship by Bryan Harsin Updated: Oct. 03, 2022, 4:41 p.m.| Published: Oct. 03, 2022, 4:41 p.m. How Bryan Harsin is preparing for trip to #2 Georgia NEW! 1,233 shares By Nubyjas Wilborn | nwilborn@al.com Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin confirmed the team awarded walk-on quarterback Trey Lindsey with a scholarship during Harsin’s Monday press conference. Lindsey is from Montgomery and grew up as an Auburn fan. He had offers at an FCS school, some Division II and III, but chose to walk on at Auburn in 2019 out of Montgomery Academy. He graduated as the school leader in touchdown passes in a career (48), season (24), and game (5) and was a star on the basketball team. “He’s out there every single week, and this guy’s a future coach,” Harsin said about Lindsey. “And he brings a tremendous amount of value and a lot of really positive things to this team.” Read More Auburn Baseball: Auburn edge Eku Leota out for season with pectoral injury Statistically speaking: Auburn committing turnovers at alarming rate What Bryan Harsin said during Monday’s press conference to preview UGA Lindsey will likely be third on the depth chart when the Tigers (3-2, 1-1) travel to play No. 2 Georgia (5-0, 2-0) on Saturday (2:30 CT CBS) at Sanford Stadium. Harsin told reporters that Zach Calzada wouldn’t return because he’s having season-ending shoulder surgery. T.J. Finley’s status remains unknown since he got injured during the 29-point loss against Penn State. Robby Ashford started the win against Missouri and the LSU loss. Freshman Holden Geriner saw some action against Missouri and was the backup quarterback in both games. “As far as our quarterbacks, you have Robby (Ashford) out there, you have Holden (Geriner) out there, and we’ll see where T.J. (Finley) is at this week,” Harsin said. “Those guys are getting prepared to play. They are ready to play. They’re going to get out there. We can worry about depth and those things. That’s certainly a concern when you don’t have four guys like you want to have on scholarship that are available to play.”
  16. Disclaimer: I am an engineer and not a football coach, but these were my thoughts. I noticed against PSU that our right tackle was having a very difficult time controlling the edge rusher on his side. It looked to me that he was giving it his best but his feet just weren't quick enough, and the edge rusher was leaning his shoulder against him and using him as a pivot point to circle into our backfield. It occurred to me that maybe wider splits would have helped our tackle control the rusher, but then that might create gap control problems, so maybe combine wider splits with slide blocking while rolling the pocket to the slide side?
  17. Like everyone on this board I have an opinion and mine is that nothing happens until the season is over. Here is my reasoning: Dr. Roberts is our new President and he is by all accounts an extremely intelligent man. I don't expect an impulsive decision from him, and if we get one (Ref: Steven Leath) I will be surprised and disappointed. I don't think there is much to be gained by an in season termination, except that the adversarial news media will use the event to ridicule AU for persecuting another coach and coming up with numerous malicious rumors concerning the evil PTB and their contentious involvement in AU athletics. Much of this faux sympathy reporting can be nulled by simply waiting until the end of the season when the record will very likely be undeniable. Fans want immediate results but fans don't really enter into the decision making process and mostly are not part of the equation. We have a major problem with our OL and that problem will not get fixed quickly. Even if you could an entire experienced staring unit out of the portal, they will not have had any experience working in a new system and working with each other. OL might be the hardest position on the team to recruit, develop, and synchronize into a smoothly functioning unit. Anecdotally, I have observed that many OL are oftentimes some of the most intelligent players on the team. I don't think they get nearly as much respect as they deserve. I have always believed that if you have a good OL and a decent defense you have a chance against almost any team. Dr. Roberts has an entire university to be responsible for and part of that responsibility involves the public's perception of our beloved Auburn. It is not the just the football program he will be thinking of in this situation. I
  18. For the fans, possibly, for the players definitely not. Most fans want CBH gone and it will almost certainly happen, but not until the season is over. Firing CBH now will be a very bad look for Auburn University. I don't think our new president will make that decision until the season is over because by then the record will very likely tell an undeniable story. We fans want a quick fix, kind of like grabbing the remote and clicking to a winning channel, but that is not happening. We did not get into this situation overnight and we won't get out of it overnight either. If anyone still doubts the importance of the guys in the trenches in football, they didn't watch the AU quarterbacks being pressured the last two games. We have big problems with our bigs and it is going to take some time to repair.
  19. I like Dell or Deion as the HFC. Deion Sanders is a HFC now and Dell McGee was a successful high school coach, and has been an assistant for a while. Both are proven recruiters, something AU desperately needs right now. I am not sure if either can muster a calm enough demeanor to withstand the flak that an AU HFC is going to receive, especially with the rebuilding job that lies ahead. Assuming that they could unite all the factions within AU, then as far as X's and O's, they both played the game at a high level, and they will have coordinators that would be responsible for that anyway. There would be some critical in game calls that a HC has to make, and there are many other responsibilities that a HFC has to own, but nobody knows how that will play out until it plays out. At the end of the day, we have to get someone fearless enough to not be intimated by Saban and Smart, and someone able to successfully recruit for the SEC West. That might just mean, someone with an edge, and someone with something to prove. I think these two possible candidates fit.
  20. Sir, that is not an old guy. I graduated Dec. 1975. Prediction: PSU will definitely try to shut down the AU running game and force our QB to win it. TJ will need to elevate his game to a previously unseen performance level. I hope he does. For that matter the skill position people need to elevate their game along with the back end of the defense. The offense cannot leave the defense on the field most of the game. Tossing all logic aside I will say: AU - 21 PSU - 17
  21. Dr. Gouge made a terrible mistake allowing a public investigation involving CBH's relationship with departing players and allegations swirling in the media concerning his relationship with a staffer. The fact that insufficient evidence of wrongdoing was uncovered to take termination action or even issue a reprimand made Auburn a joke in the college football world. The stain from that investigation continues to color everything Auburn in a way that is not beneficial to the university and it's football program. I am not an attorney but I have often heard that one of the fundamental laws of being a trial lawyer is to never ask a question in a courtroom you do not already know the answer to. Perhaps Dr. Gouge should have heeded this axiom. I also, have a hard time seeing a future for CBH at Auburn. Even if CBH is strong enough to get past what happened he is surely aware of the emotional damage done to his family. I certainly hope Dr. Roberts leads Auburn with more intellect and vision than the past two presidents have done.
  22. I believe that TJ is our best bet going forward this season. He has the size to see over the defensive line and the arm to stretch the field. If he can keep the defense honest we don't need him to make plays running the ball. Of course he has to stop throwing interceptions. RA is a great athlete but I think that better defenses are going to show him man coverage and put everybody else in the box to try and stop the run. They will force him to beat them with his arm. Maybe he can and maybe he can't, but the better teams will surely give him the opportunity.
  23. We won't see the "Whirlybird" because if we do JHS will riot. I expect us to still struggle on third and short (2->3) yards, even against Mercer. Hope I am wrong, but I need to see it to believe it. I think the success rate in that category will determine what kind of season we have.
  24. I remember watching Cam Newton in the Spring game and thinking he was awful. Never entered my mind that he would be a serviceable quarterback much less win the Heisman. This team needs for TJ to be much improved and just maybe he is. Not expecting another Heisman winner but I wasn't expecting it in 2010 either.
