  1. UA and New Balance - I'd have to see a strategic vision that really shows something to sign with either. I don't see that turnaround on the horizon for UA, but NB is new to this, and has an image that they probably want to change. How motivated and serious are they? And do they have the technical muscle to catch up with the others? Nike - They are on the brink of being a monopoly. A school like AU is never going to fare well under a monopoly. Their concern is increasing their earnings and tightening their grip on athletics. AU would have no leverage, and do you really think they would steer players toward us when they can steer them to much bigger names and markets? No. Addidas and Jordan - show us your plans for the future, with maybe a bit lower bar than UA and NB have. What's it worth to you to have a SEC Big Six program? Is Jordan actually part of Nike anyway? I don't know the industry well. We have to think 10 years out on this decision. We did that the last time, and it almost worked. This time, we can't just assume Nike is the no-brainer and sign for whatever crumbs the monopoly will give us. One of those four also-rans might have a plan and vision for the future that puts them a lot closer to equal footing with Nike. That's who we need to pick.
  2. Stolen from another board: "My Uncle is an AU grad and fan and sent me this info which he got from a friend who works the Jordan Hare video booth for home games:"They had 14 "media" time outs for a total of 44 minutes and 20 seconds. Adding time between the quarters and half time gives another 26 minutes and 50 seconds. Grand total of 1 hour 11 minutes and 10 seconds."I'm thinking this is probably similar to all televised games. I knew it was bad but sheesh."
  3. Wrestler going by the pic of him in headgear in the first post. OL and DL coming from wrestling programs have an innate understanding of leverage that linemen without that background don't have. Dye made a living recruiting kids who wrestled in HS.
  4. Did anyone see Yann Cowart's post about his scholly moment with Dye in the responses? Great to see this.
  5. This is a good article, and worth breaking out from Fifty's posting of all 8/27 articles. I posted a comment on it that I'll repeat here: If you read through Fifty's daily posting of articles for the 27th on the Football board, there is an article of likelihood of redshirts for each of our incoming freshmen. Ever since Saban's arrival at bammer, it seems like we have had to count on significant numbers of TF's to play every year. For those who don't remember, Saban made taking every LB we had a shot at, or encouraging them to go elsewhere, a high art for the first few years, leaving us chronically short at that position for one. We lost at least one IB because our limited depth at LB was all playing hurt. I'll never forget one guy who was considered an AU lock visiting bammer late, then committing within days to some OOC school that was hardly even on his radar. In the Gus era, we just always seemed short handed at multiple positions too. This year, 14 of our 21 player freshman class have likelihoods of redshirt either medium or high. I may be wrong, but I can't recall the last time we had such a large percentage of the freshman class headed for a RS. That is in large part because of the number of probable starters CHF pulled from the portal, of course. This is a good thing for the future of the program, and excellent roster management by the staff so far. It wasn't the greatest class ever, so maybe that's some of the reason, but if these guys aren't chasing NIL to xfer because they weren't 4-5* to begin with, we might be able to do something with them in 2-3 years of physical development and coaching.
  6. To your first point, going even further back, look at Stan White's abysmal TD/INT ratio prior to 1993.
  7. That's the problem I have. I don't like paying for 100 channels I won't use on ANY service. I want ESPN and their companion channels, that's it, but there is no way to get only ESPN that I can find.
  8. ESPN on YouTube offers ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN2 and ESPN News. Now that you mention it, it's not entirely clear what the ESPN+ bundle gets you on Hulu.
  9. Hulu - what an incredibly confusing mess of plans. Looks simple enough until you really dig into it. See this page for more gruesome details. YouTube TV is comparatively simple for $64.99/mo, $8 off the first three months. That's all you need, and there are ads. For Hulu, you can get: Hulu/Live TV/Disney+/ESPN+ all with ads for $69.99/mo, and that is supposed to go up in October. If you want no ads on Hulu & Disney, it's $82.99/mo Or you can get Hulu only with ads for $7.99/month and add on the ESPN+ package for $9.99/mo - no live TV in this option. I assume that means ESPN is still live, you just don't get the other channels. Or you can get the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle (with ads, no live TV) for less, $12.99/mo, but that's on sale and it's not clear how long that promo price is good for. Basically, they are paying for you to take Disney+. Bob Iger has to pump up those subscriber numbers for D+ before the next earnings call! Which is a point about Hulu in general - uncertainty. It has been announced that their pricing will increase in October, but how much is as of yet unclear. Iger has also talked publicly in their last earnings call about "finding strategic partners" for both Hulu and ESPN+, which is megacorp speak for "We could firesale this hot mess at any moment, or we might just shut it down to take the tax loss." To a degree, there is some of the same uncertainty with ESPN+ on YouTube, but that is an external contract with another megacorp, and will be very hard to break. Breaking the internal contracts for a wholly owned unit is easy peasy in comparison, should the Mouse decide to sell Hulu, ESPN, or both. All that to say, I'm still thinking about it......
  10. We tried Fubo before, and it was pretty bad - lots of drops and pauses. Got rid of it before the season ended. Their stock price has imploded, not sure how long they will be with us.
  11. I cut the cord years ago, and usually sign up for a streaming service just for CFB season. YouTube TV has been my go-to, are they still be the best option for AU and SEC games, or is there something better? I haven't kept up with the media deals at all.
  12. When I've gone there, I never flew into SFO. It was always cheaper and more convenient to take SWA into OAK or SJC. OAK looks closer to the stadium, but SJC is not a bad Uber.
  13. Looking at it purely in terms of eyeballs, you could close out the Texas market with TCU and Baylor - small but wealthy schools that would get the rest of DFW's eyeballs and the fraction of the state that isn't Horns/Ags/Sooners. Baylor's new stadium is said to be nice. I don't think Texas Tech is worth the trip. Okie State? Maybe. Looking East, I'm not sure Miami is a fit, but SEC fans would at least fill their stadium, which their own fans don't do today. A lot of fanbases would like that roadtrip. Texas or OU at Miami in November? Oh yeah. LSU fans at a night game in the Orange Bowl? They just though this past Spring Break was bad.......Would the state of Georgia push to get Tech into the conference? Doesn't do much in football, but we could use some easier teams, does boost academic standing and BB. UNC is intriguing, as is Virginia, but don't be surprised if both try for the B1G.
  14. Are those fishnet stockings on the Orange? There are sooo many directions that could be taken in today's world.
  15. My son ran in the low 11's in 8th grade, made the finals heat where all 8 (IIRC) kids finished within a step or two of each other and finished 5th in the district (metro Austin area). Pulled a groin later that day, took up piano while recovering (where he turned out to be something of a prodigy) and never played an organized sport again. Kids. 🤔
  16. Well, if Golf is in I guess I am too!
  17. When we recruited him and Sledge, I felt like Sledge had more potential between the two. Caught a lot of flack over that. I guess we'll see on Sledge at least.
  18. Forty odd years ago, I wrote my very first check on campus to the university bookstore in Haley. I wrote it to "The University of Auburn". The cashier shrugged and said "It works".
  19. False. He was never coming to AU.
  20. Recall in the 2nd half of the Camback, Gus started sending in plays via players instead of signals, and we started moving the ball. On one of the critical plays, you could clearly read one of the bammer coaches saying to Saban "That was supposed to be a run play!".
  21. Didn't Miranda Lambert have a documentary video about that? Something about Famous in a Small Town?
  22. Could be a possibility Bird, not a bad drive from ATX, depends on how my son's HW load is going, would be a chance to visit with my daughter there as well. Let me look at it again as the date gets closer to make sure I don't have business conflicts.
  23. Well, Golf is old enough for diapers again, but you know how birds are, all you can do is to keep putting down newspaper wherever they're at.
  24. Commentators in the game made mention that apparently a LOT of UF players sat out the bowl game, while UO had none that did.
  25. Noooooooooooo!!!!! Not the 'cruitin' finger againnnnnnnnnnn 😉
