Kerry Aide Talked to Retired Guard Officer

NEW YORK - At the behest of CBS, an adviser to John Kerry said Monday he talked to a central figure in the controversy over President Bush National Guard service shortly before disputed documents were released.

Joe Lockhart denied any connection between the presidential campaign and the papers. Lockhart, the second Kerry ally to confirm contact with retired Texas National Guard officer Bill Burkett, said he made the call at the suggestion of CBS producer Mary Mapes.

"He had some advice on how to deal with the Vietnam issue and the Swift boat" allegations, Lockhart said, referring to GOP-fueled accusations that Kerry exaggerated his Vietnam War record. "He said these guys play tough and we have to put the Vietnam experience into context and have Kerry talk about it more."

Why in the world would someone, anyone, at CBS be contacting the Kerry campaign with one of their primary sources, so that their source could pass on advice??? How many times has CBS contacted the Bush campaign with one of their sources so the Bush campaign could get some advice? I was giving Rather and CBS the benefit of the doubt on this story, assuming they really were just stupid; but this confirms without a doubt that Rather and his producer were motivated strictly for the political gain in their dealings with Burkett and their presenting of this 'story'. Someone needs to go to jail for fraud.

"Kerry Aide Talked to Retired Guard Officer"

"Kerry ally Max Cleland, a former Georgia senator, also said he had a brief conversation last month with Burkett,,,,,,"

but,

"Kerry spokesman David Ginsberg said nobody in the campaign's research department followed up on Burkett's offer of information. "

Key point ",,,,,,nobody in the campaign's research department followed up,,,,,,"

But who from which department did follow up? ;)

That all makes perfect sense and is completely believable, in a convoluted Kerry sort of way, doesn't it? Right? I mean how could anyone ever think that the Kerry campaign knew about and was pushing this? ;)

Think like an attorney on this and you can actually see the lies...
