This is a very young team. Coach Clinard has this mens team heading in the right direction. Only his second year and to have us racked 8th is phenomenal.

Sophomore Blayne Barber (68), rated by Golfweek Magazine as the No. 13 collegiate golfer in the country, leads the Tigers in a tie for second, trailing LSU's John Peterson by one stroke. Sophomore Michael Hebert (69) finished the day tied for seventh followed by freshman Niclas Carlsson (72) tied for 23rd, junior Kyle Kopsick (73) tied for 33rd and freshman Dan Stringfellow (76) tied for 61st.

Competing as an individual, junior Cory Gilmer (72) is tied for 23rd.

"It was warm and calm for the first seven or eight holes," said Auburn head coach Nick Clinard. "The wind picked up towards the second half of the round and made it a little more challenging toward the end.

"We got off to a good start. The opening five holes here is a tough stretch. No. 6 hurt us little bit, too. I think we picked up three bogies there."

Although carding eight front-nine birdies, the Tigers made the turn tied for fifth at 1-under. It was on the back nine where Auburn made its move. As a team, the Tigers carded an eagle, five birdies and one bogey in the opening two holes of the back nine, surging to the top of the leaderboard.

"That was a strong couple holes for us," said Clinard. "No. 11 was a straight, downwind par-5. The guys made some real nice shots there. Michael (Hebert) hit a strong drive and followed it up with a beautiful 3-iron to set up for eagle."

No. 10 LSU (284) is in third followed by No. 18 Arkansas (285), No. 3 Florida (286), Coastal Carolina (287), Tennessee (289), Central Florida (289), Tulsa (290), Georgia Southern (292), North Florida (292), Ole Miss (293), Mercer (294), UAB (297) and Jacksonville (307).

We vare actually in first place by 7 shots after 2 rounds. Lead Arky ans LSWho fell to third. I love that course, very tough when the rough is up. And even worse in hot humid weather.

It can also be very windy at times. Particularly in the afternoon.

Coach mentioned I believe that it had become windy late the first day. Should be better today.

Finished second 2 strokes behind Arkansas.
