BirdofPrey76 0
It was announced today that the Universities of Alabama at Huntsville and Tuscaloosa are exchanging nicknames for their respective athletics programs. Although several reasons were given for the exchange, it is widely believed that the leadership at the Tuscaloosa campus, commonly referred to as the Red Elephant Club (REC), believes that "Chargers" more closely defines their modern athletics programs, especially football, than the outdated "Crimson Tide" moniker. "Crimson Tide" dates back to the 1920s when the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA was considered a relevant bowl game. Both the Rose Bowl and Georgia Tech (who used to be a big rivalry game but are no longer on their schedule) are prominently featured in the UAT fight song, "Yea, Alabama". Their hopelessly outdated fight song is also under consideration for change. It is rumored that the theme to the once popular TV sitcom, All in the Family, "Those Were the Days," is the runaway choice for the new fight song. We will keep you posted as further news develops.
