SEC Media Days Preseason Picks... HA!

Recommended Posts

I know I know, these things are meaningless. But I just have to laugh at a few of the observations:

Auburn was the only team in the West to not receive one 1st place vote. Even Ole Miss had two! Similarly, only Vanderbilt received no 1st place votes. Overall, we were predicted to come in 5th. I know we have low expectations and all, but it's just amazing that the defending National Champions don't even come in the top half of their division. It's quite possible Auburn may come in 5th, but still amazing.

Neiko Thorpe is on the Second-Team defense. HA! Neiko? He is barely on the first team for Auburn. Is the secondary that bad in the SEC? T'Sharvan Bell is on the third team. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think Bell is much better. Granted, these media guys don't really follow it all that much. They probably just go based on seniority.

Surprised to see Mosley on the first team OL. Not taking anything away from him, but just didn't expect that. Again, probably a seniority thing.

Others: Blake third team, Nosa second team, Dyer second team, O-Mac second team for Return Specialists.

Bama has 7 on offense and 5 on first team defense with a total of 7 on defense nominations. With those kind of expectations, anything short of an SEC Championship should be deemed a failure to Bama fans.

Actually, with the preseason hype bama is getting, saban should be fired if he doesn't win the BCSNCG.

Isn't that what sheridan said about Auburn and Chizik winning 9 games?

Sounds like the perfect plan !  Satan is supposed to win it all, AU defeats him and the UpDykes.......and then he gets the boot.

WDE !!!

Last year bamma finished 4th in the West, so it's not such a bad prediction.

Check the dates on the ballots...I think it's the same ones they used last year.  Different excuses of course ....a 5-19 coach, no QB experience, difficult schedule, freshmen and Juco guys at key positions, etc....so what else is new?

Guys, for the life of me I can't see how any objective observer could pick us #1.  Ole Miss, either.  An objective observer has to know how important experience is in the SEC -- and Bama, LSU, and Arkansas all clearly look better than we do at the moment.

Honestly, the only reason to pick us above State is because we're Auburn and they're State.

I believe in this team.  I'm just saying it takes a lot of faith in our coaches to pick us anything but fourth or fifth.

Oh I agree picking Auburn to come in first would be only by those who see in O&B. Just that someone would predict Ole Miss or Kentucky and not one pick Auburn at the same time baffles me.

And yes, Bama did come in 4th last year. I was speaking more about the prediction, not the finish. I guess my point is, this would only happen to Auburn. No respect. But that is OK. Personally I would predict Auburn to come in 4th.

I'm not suggesting that AU should be number 1 ...only that these scribes have preconceived notions often not based on much objective information.  An undecided QB situation at one AU is a problem and at another school it goes almost uncommented upon.  And these were probably the same guys who picked Ole Miss to be #1 a couple years ago?    Virtually no one saw Cam or Nick coming this time last year so why does what these guys say now really matter?    Just something to fill the time until practice starts and to keep the SEC in the national eye as football season approaches.

Edward Aschoff, the new guy on the ESPN SEC blog, picked Auburn dead last in the West.  DEAD LAST.  BEHIND OLE PISS.  Seriously?  I know these predictions mean nothing, and that he hasn't been on the SEC blog long, but he is as edited dumb as the West Vance fan base if he thinks Auburn comes in last in the West.   :banghead:

One of two reasons the press picks uat so high every year:

1.  They're in love with  and will bend over for him at any and all times; OR

2.  They're tired of his antics and have put so much impossibly high expectations on him that he can't meet, so he will fail...and they'll get to grill him on it to get back at him for acting like an azz for so many years.

I much more Machiavellian than most...I chose reason number 2!
