Do people realize that only Tiger is actually our mascot, and it makes absolutely NO SENSE to fly a bald eagle and scream "WAR EAGLE". It makes me cry a little to hear the "to continue a Tradition Uniquely Auburn" crap and see people giving Spirit the consideration we'd give to our actual mascot. Our Tradition is flying our mascot before home games, not just some random bird!!!! If you want to see a bald eagle go to a Yankees game.

"War Eagle" is also our battle cry yelled many more times than just when our mascot is on the field. Guess we shouldn't sing the fight song either if Tiger isn't out there. Sheesh. Some people wouldn't be happy with the first row in heaven!

Better just to not have an eagle fly at all I guess...

Hey Jenn, I totally agree with you. I get chills every time A yes I said A bird is released from the upper decks. It doesnt matter which one. (Our war cry is WAR EAGLE not WAR GOLDEN EAGLE....duh!!!!) Not only does it intimidate and awe the visitors but it really gets the stadium fired up. As for the first post....If you dont like it, stay home and give or sell your tickets to someone else!!

Tennessee are the Volunteers. They have Smokey the blue tick hound.

Miami are the Hurricanes. They have that goofy duck. Or is it a seagull?

Alabama is the Crimson Tide. They have the elephant. Or vice versa.

aTm are the Aggies. They have the Twelfth Man.

etc., etc., etc.

Auburn are the Tigers. We also have an eagle.

apparently you do not realize it either, i'm not an expert but isn't aubie our mascot while tiger is a symbol of the war eagle legend. i don't recall tiger representing auburn at the ncaa mascot championship; however, tiger does represent the history and tradition of auburn football as well as assist wildlife officials to promote wildlife conservation. since you state our tradition is flying our mascot, then i expect aubie to grow wings and circle the stadium this weekend.

I understand the mascot situation here. Tiger is our live mascot. Just like LSU has (Specifically) a BENGAL Tiger, we have a GOLDEN Eagle. But forget I said anything. We're trying our best to piss on every tradition we ever had, and its opinions like yours that have let them get away with it. I'd be greatly interested in the opinions of any former Alpha Phi Omega brothers, but the rest of you can just ignore me.

EXCUSE ME! I have never "pissed on any tradition" whats the problem with creating news ones to go along with the old ones. You are the only person out of the thousands of AU fans on this earth that I have every heard complain about the eagle flight. USC fans were upset last year that they didn't get to see it. You must be one of those tree huggin hippies that doesn't think any animal should be kept inside.

This kind of attitude really pisses me off. Yes....I'm a terrible fan because I realize that a bald eagle is just a conservation message instead of the school spirit thing that having Tiger fly is. How dare I say something different or <GASP> negative. How dare I not shout WAR EAGLE when the actual Ware Eagle might not even be in the building. When this was started it meant something. Now it's just cheap theatrics, and yes, I obviously hate all things Auburn now because of it. Bathe in my sarcasm!

Wow, you're a sharp one aren't you? I'm not complaining about the eagle flight. I love it when Tiger does it. I simply want our Traditions to make sense. I want our "mascot" (are you happy now, it's in quotes) to fly. I firmly believe that we could paint a 50 foot inflatable frog orange and blue, put it on the 50 yard line, and people like you would cheer their asses off. So what if we're not the Auburn Frogs......It Orange and Blue, dammit, and if you don't cheer it you're not a true Auburn Fan.

Does anyone have actual pictures of the original eagle?

Get a friggin grip, it does not in any way matter what kind of eagle flies, it is a symbol. I would imagine that every AU fan there knows the stories and tradition about the eagle. If you want to be absolutely accurate, why don't the people who care for the eagle's have to wear clothing from the 1860's?

Ok.....lets start over....wouldnt it be .......

Come on.....I know I would much prefer to see a Golden Eagle fly.......but the fact is that Tigers is 22 some odd years old and Nova is too young too do the flight justice...she is learning however....

When Spirit flew for the LSU game, I had tears in my eyes.....That was the most beautiful thing I had seen in a long time.....Just to see that tradition back after a long abscence was wonderful......So which ever bird flys........They all represent the tradition of "War Eagle" for AU and thats the bottom line.

WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!!

isn't aubie live since i don't recall strings moving his body.

apparently you still don't since you continue to state tiger is a mascot ,it is A SYMBOL!!!! of legend and tradition as well as promoting wildlife conservation. besides the legend doesn't state what kind of eagle flew during auburn's 10-0 win over georgia.

was it your grandfather that shot war eagle III?

rumor as it we will be rolling toomer's corner with orange and blue yarn beginning next year.

The flight of the eagle is a fairly new "Tradition". It's also one of the most awesome sights in sports or elsewhere. I have no problem with any of them flying as long as they keep on doing it. Now there's some other new "Traditions" I could do without, like some of the commercialism that keeps creeping in every game. The "Waste Management Replay". But, money talks.

Tiger did fly, so maybe AU_MB_01 will stop bitching. I mean, geez, I prefer the golden eagle to fly also, but I'd rather see a bald eagle fill in than see no eagle flying at all.

I don't give a damn if it's a bald eagle or a golden eagle. Hell, I would probably get tears in my eyes and chill bumps if a damn buzzard (a member of the eagle family) came circling around JH and started picking up all the scraps of meat left from the AU massacre of the other team. I, for one, cannot tell the difference which one is flying. All I know that the eagle flight is one of the best ways to get the crowd going that I know of. I've yet to not get chill bumps or a lump in my throat.

And what kind of bird is this?

I, personally, love Tiger and am ready for Nova or Spirit to be dubbed War Eagle VII, but I doubt it will ever happen, since neither is AU property anymore. (Tiger isn't AU property anymore either. See SERRC)

I want, more than anything, for the tradition to continue with an official AU mascot, but I don't think that will EVER happen.
