If he had touched anyone, caused anyone to fall backwards maybe they get called. it was clean and a heck of a play.

We'll see of they change it next year but it was a clean leap and block I think you are missing what everyone is saying. If he would have just JUMPED and not hurdled I think they are saying it would have been clean. The hurdling part is what they are saying made it illegal. Nobody is arguing there was any contact. As a side note, he was totally offsides anyway.
AidiAU 1,270
I was leaving the stadium and had the pleasure of watching the refs ride out with their police escort. One Auburn gentlemen was on the street giving thumbs down and yelling about what a terrible job they did. It made me feel slightly better to watch that. That being said, the officiating as been TERRIBLE this year. And I'm saying that on games we won, definitely not a "sore loser" complaining. TigerTennis80 345
I'm relieved with the win. Let's see.... KP has a TD to ice the game & pulls up lame. We have a 2nd down play that appears to have been a walk in TD if we block the 1 guy who blew it up. They blocked the FG on a great play, unless it's illegal. We tip a 4th down pass right to their receiver... This was starting to feel like 1 of THOSE games. No, I'm thrilled to get the W!
gr82b4au 5,568
How can we stop the other team from completing these quick slants over the middle? Over and over. They probably were over 50% on 3rd down against our defense. Bringing back bad memories. Teams are finding our weak spot now.
auburnpride99 6
Restrictions for Blocking Kicks The defensive team has some other restrictions when it tries to block a field goal in college football. Defenders cannot jump on a teammate or be boosted up by a teammate in order to be higher to block the field goal attempt. Doing so will be a penalty and if you block the kick or the offense misses the kick, they will get a 15-yard penalty and a re-kick opportunity. In addition, players cannot hurdle or jump over the offensive line to block a kick. That infraction will be assessed a 15-yard penalty as well. In addition, a new rule was proposed in 2011 that would restrict the defense from performing a three on one triple-team against an offensive lineman during a field-goal attempt. According to the NCAA proposal, it would be illegal for defense to line up three players shoulder to shoulder and advance into an offensive player. This is meant to protect the lineman and would be a 5-yard penalty under the new rules proposal. http://www.livestrong.com/article/403618-rules-for-blocking-a-field-goal-in-college-football/

In about a minute: 1) Pettway about to ice the game and goes down with injury 2) Cunningham pulls one of the most ridiculous defensive plays I've even seen to block field goal that would ice the game 3) Vandy almost pulls off the Slayer in Jordan Hare -- just about a mirror image of Ricardo's catch The entire sequence was begging for an upset. I can almost guarantee they would have gone for 2 if scored aTD there.
ValleyTiger 2,894
Even worse is that it's my understanding that no defender can line head up on the long snapper clearing the way for the hurdle that we now KNOW is illegal in college football. Mind boggling how the refs screw that up. You'd think it'd be a regular conversation point in the offseason with player safety being of utmost importance. TigerTennis80 345
1 thing about the refs.... If I remember right, there was 1 holding call in last week's game, none on us. I thought at the time that it was weird to have only 1 such call & wondered if our guys got away with things that other crews might call, & if that was so, how unfair that was. Well, today they called some ticky tack holding penalties. And I think my thought last week was right--it's not fair to any player if 1 week something is holding & the next week it isn't. How are they supposed to know how to play? Ugh...

I'm certainly not one who claims to up on all the rules though but even without touching someone he was lined up right over the snapper and hurdled. I'm sure this debate will go on for a while but i'd love to hear the explanation from the refs or NCAA.
