Bird - why is it that so many of our DB's have had this issue. Is it coaching and if so do you expect an improvement this year?

Man, I don't know...It's frustrating for sure.  I'm sure the coaches aren't coaching it that way, but players like Tutt, Smoke, Kaufman, Matthews, J. Davis, et al all got lost more than they should've.

Does anyone know if our Lead '24 recruiter WW will be visiting unofficially on June 16?  So many of the guys he is actively recruiting will be in Auburn for their OV that day. Looks like it could shape up to be a huge weekend. WDE!!

Five-star Alabama commit Jaylen Mbakwe will officially visit Auburn

Alabama commit Jaylen Mbakwe plans to take an official visit to the Plains.

Andrew Stefaniak17 hours ago

Cole Pinkston of On3 reported that class of 2024 five-star corner Jaylen Mbakwe will take an official visit to Auburn next weekend.

What's the significance of this? Well, aside from the fact that Mbakwe is a five-star, he is also an Alabama commit.

That means that Auburn will have two Alabama commits on official visits in the near future, with both Mbakwe and Perry Thompson setting one up.

The five-foot-eleven corner has been committed to Alabama since July 26th, 2022, and is the number 20 player in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports.

It's great to see Auburn back recruiting against the big dogs, thanks to Coach Freeze working his tail off on the trail.

Here is the scouting report on Mbakwe written by 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Cooper Petagna.

"Verified size at 5-foot-11 and 170-pounds. Possesses growth potential to add additional weight to his frame. Displays excellent athleticism in all three-phases of the game.

Exhibits good patience and suddenness as a route runner. Shows the ability to create separation off the line of scrimmage and at the top of the route with good initial quickness. Possesses the ability to change speeds and displays outstanding route tempo at the receiver position.

Understands leverage and how to create natural separation from the defender. Demonstrates outstanding play speed but plays with excellent patience and body control. Shows the ability to consistently win 50/50 balls with leaping and adjust ability. Appears to have good play strength at the catch point and as a runner in the open field. Possesses the ability to consistently play through contact and displays outstanding elusiveness with the ball in his hands.

Also maintains the ability to play on the defensive side of the ball, where he shares a lot of the same qualities on defense at the corner position. Plays with very good patience at the line of scrimmage and displays excellent instincts playing the ball in the air.

A pure football player, Mbakwe also possesses outstanding verified speed with a 10.46 100-meter time from this spring. Projects as a corner at the next level with an ability to make an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball, the return game and on multiple special teams units. Bonafide playmaker that has game changing ability in every phase of the game and has the potential to be a day one NFL Draft choice."

Hopefully, Zac Etheridge will be able to sell Auburn well when Mbakwe is on his visit and get him to flip to the other side of the Iron Bowl.

This will be a very interesting situation to monitor, as it is always fun for Auburn to get after Alabama commits.

Lindsey sees 'potential in everything' ahead of Auburn visit

This upcoming weekend will be 's first trip to Auburn.

The four-star defensive end out of Bryant, Arkansas, tried to visit in May, but when it didn't work out, Lindsey decided to schedule his official visit for the first weekend in June.

He's excited to finally get a chance to meet up with the staff in-person this weekend.

"Just seeing everybody in person for the first time other than Coach Garrett," Lindsey said on what he's looking forward to. "Then just the environment, the place, the school, everything they got to offer."

Auburn is one of four scheduled official visits for Lindsey this month, as the Tigers are currently sitting in his top group of schools. His relationship with the coaching staff is what has Auburn high on his list.

"My relationships with Coach [Jeremy] Garrett, Coach Freeze, the rest of the staff," Lindsey said. "We built a pretty close one."

Following his visit to Auburn, Lindsey will officially visit Miami, Texas A&M and Texas over the next three weekends. He noted that those are the four schools really sticking out to him right now, but there are others keeping in touch as well.

What comes to his mind when he thinks of Auburn?

"I just see a lot of potential in everything," Lindsey said. "From opportunity and playing, after football, culture and things like that."

Three-star WR Bryce Cain schedules official visit to Auburn

Taylor Jones

Auburn football is high on the list of three-star wide receiver Bryce Cain and will have the chance to seal the deal later this month.

Cain, the No. 40 prospect from the state of Alabama for the 2024 cycle, has locked in an official visit to Auburn for the weekend of June 9. Auburn is on the top of Cain’s list, but they will have to fight off Ole Miss in order to obtain his signature. Head coach Hugh Freeze and wide receivers coach Marcus Davis have the chance to lock in his commitment during the visit.

In a recent interview with Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover ($), Cain says that he is intrigued by what Auburn has to offer.

“Auburn — everything sticks out to me,” Cain said. “I love the facility, love the coaches, love the players. I feel like they can take me to the next level.”

Davis, a former Auburn wide receiver himself, has been Cain’s primary contact. Cain says that Davis hopes to get the chance to coach and develop him at Auburn.

Cain is a 5-11, 170-pound wide receiver from Baker High School in Mobile and is rated as a three-star by 247Sports. Steve Wiltfong and David Johnson, both of 247Sports, have given Ole Miss a crystal ball to land Cain. Both predictions were made prior to April 6, however. According to On3, Cain has a 97.8% chance to sign with Ole Miss.

It will be vital for Freeze to blow Cain away during his visit if he hopes to record another one of his trademark “flips” on the recruiting trail.
