Maga…. Self identified hard core maga is approx 20% of the electorate.  It’s not an ideology based on something/someone like capitalism (Adam smith), libertarian (ayan Rand), sicialism (saint-Simon), ect.

It’s whoever's left. It’s not … capable of an ideology. Ps see a pattern?

It’s amazing how politics is no longer about the role of gov or fiscal positions. For maga it’s really just about 3 things: the border, guns,  and bud light.

What a bias thing to say.  You are the one that brought up disagreeing with basic scientific facts.  You implied MAGA goes against those facts.  I am wondering what the chart for believing a boy can become a girl just by plastic surgery?  Your sex can not be changed just by surgery, unless you are mentally ill, and that is basic scientific fact.

Ofcourse the cultural things matter. But…. everything? How much does Trump talk about the deficit, social security, states rights, ect? Respectfully imo youre fixating on the progressive bogey man. 70% of the country doesnt believe transgenders should be allowed in girls sports. 72% believe the border is in crisis. Any moderate (ie manchin) already agrees on these obvious issues. You don’t need trump/maga for that. And yet the gop passed on candidates with a MUCH  higher probability to beat Biden and actually secure the border - and they didn’t. Why?

Maga isn’t comprehensive about all facets of gov and it isn’t about reason, it’s Jerry springer topics (ie the gov is coming to take my penis), anger, and hysteria.

Incidentally, the science on gender is is no way settled, much less simple "fact".

https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/how-science-is-helping-us-understand-gender/

Gender is an amalgamation of several elements: chromosomes (those X's and Y's), anatomy (internal sex organs and external genitals), hormones (relative levels of testosterone and estrogen), psychology (self-defined gender identity), and culture (socially defined gender behaviors).Oct 19, 2023

It isn’t *everything*, but it is low hanging fruit.  The continuous changing of definitions and basic understanding is what most conservatives are against.  If you can convince the population that all is takes is thought to change you sex, you can convince them of anything.  Think a little more that what the media is telling you.

I am disappointed the Republican Party is hung up on Trump, but I only have one vote and I have to accept what they have decided by rules that are in place.  The conservatives have sat back and had the thought that if it doesn’t affect me, I guess it is OK.  We have seen this only allows liberals to press the envelope in every direction.  It is a lot like Biden appeasing terrorists.   It has got to stop and now is the time.  I’m sorry you can’t see it.

Liberalism at its heart is about “fair” and fixing… everything. The human tragedy at the border, discrimination based race/sex, inequity in compensation, ect. It actually means well at its heart. However, IMO it has 3 massive flaws : 1) it’s naive in it’s understanding of the diversity of human nature and that by trying to get gov to fix and regulate  “fair”, you create 5 times more severe problems 2) there are elements of liberalism that have been perverted by “woke” extremists (ie the 1463 project which has destroyed mlk’s vision of color blind and has re-tribalized society) and have tried to radicalize the dem party 3) it doesn’t understand that American culture was based on individualism.

That being said, I understand progressives more than I understand maga. All I can figure maga believes in is the opposite of what progressives believe in. It isn’t based on its own thinking - just being 180 contrarian to somebody else’s.

You had a really good post going and than this ^^^^

Get over your MAGA issue, not all conservatives are MAGA and labeling conservatives as MAGA is a disservice to conservatives.  It’s like calling someone a racists to stop conversation.

George Orwell once said:  "Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them" and, as you can see, Home is an intellectual.  Of course, George Orwell is the author of 1984 which is being used as a guide for the progressives.

Even thought 70% of people do not agree with *gender affirming care* (if it were really gender affirming, wouldn’t it be affirming your biological sex?) why aren’t more people willing to take as stand?  Could it be because everytime the subject is brought up you are shouted down and called MAGA?

I’m a fiscal conservative, socially more moderate. But when you say “conservative”  in 2024 I have no idea what that really means. Best I can figure  - socially conservative (or however evangelical preachers decide on how to interpret scripture on any given Sunday) and fiscally … who the heck knows. Ps long term which do you think is the greater existential threat to viability of the country - 1)  the border/light beer 2) a $34 trillion debt.  Btw that’s not theoretical - we pay $300b/yr just in interest, its inflationary as hell, and guess how much China controls of it?

Modern conservatism (what I call maga to differentiate from historical conservatism) seems very limited in its scope  - just basic social traditionalism.

For some reason you think one does not affect the other, or there is only two choices to fix the problem.  Do you think the uncontrolled border is not going to affect our entitlement programs, which in turn, adds to the debt?  If you can control the influx of welfare seeking individuals you have a better chance of controlling the dept.  If we stop handing out free money let’s see how that affects the border crisis.  If we arrest and deport the criminals (no sanctuary cities), lets see how that affects the border.

In years past all there was were fiscal conservatives on the right, now the budgets have blown up for several reasons from both sides of the aisle.  A fiscal conservative now is basically the head of a household trying to stick to a budget.  Social conservatives, to me, is one that wants to slow the ideologies down and take a deeper look at what the affect will be.  The medical field has thrown out these puberty blockers to young children initially saying they are reversable.  They’re not.  In fact the one for male to female is the same drugs given to sex offenders to castrate them.  There is no long term studies because the practice hasn’t been around that long.  That’s moving way too fast.

The DEI ideology has been backed by this administration because it sounds like a good idea.  Who could disagree with being diverse, enhancing equity and being inclusive?  Who could disagree with gender affirming care or that Black Lives Matter?  All Orwellian terms.  I’m for slowing it down.

The progressive what it now.  That is the main difference in my view.

Our economy would collapse quickly without immigrant labor. People don’t walk across cartel land for hundreds of miles and cross rivers and deserts and crawl through razor wire for a few hundred dollars a month of welfare. The vast overwhelming majority are coming to work like dogs doing dangerous jobs for poverty wages.  Try doing a job fair at Hoover High school and see how many of the kids are interested in roofing houses all summer, cleaning bathrooms at the local Days Inn, or working the night shift at McDonalds. See how many of them are interested in an immediate work opportunity in a chicken plant. Or picking beans in Southern California. Do the same job fair at an upcoming MAGA rally. See how many takers you get.

That is a tired old line.  Our unemployment is somewhere around 3.7% (or about 6 million) and were letting in twice that many in 3+ years.  We don’t need this many laborers that are unvetted.  Immigration should be orderly.

I don’t expect they do.  The cartels are making a lot of money off of this immigration chaos and if these immigrants are to cross their land they must pay.  This is from a speech from Rep Green

CHAIRMAN GREEN: “EVERY DOLLAR THE CARTELS RAKE IN COMES AT THE COST OF AN AMERICAN LIFE OR LIVELIHOOD”

July 19, 2023

Delivers opening remarks in full committee hearing on Secretary Mayorkas’ loss of operational control to cartels

As I said earlier, migrants are also victims of cartel atrocities. Once individuals are smuggled into the United States, the cartels often continue to extort and use them. According to Mayorkas’ own department, there has been an increase in “alternative forms of payment in exchange for passage, including migrants being required to participate in smuggling controlled substances or other illicit items across the border or to work off debts through criminal activity upon arrival in the United States.”

As many as 60% of unaccompanied minors are kidnapped and exploited by the cartels. Other migrants are sexually abused and assaulted. One victim told the New York Times, “You have to pay with your body” and some are even forced to allow their children to be abused. I can’t imagine anything worse.

Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden’s policies have encouraged record numbers of people to make the journey to the Southwest border. This has represented a historic business opportunity for the cartels, who make thousands of dollars on every person they smuggle into our country.

Their business model continues to work because instead of enforcing the law and removing or detaining those with no valid claim to enter, Mayorkas’ DHS is flashing the neon “Open” sign by releasing millions of inadmissible aliens into the United States.

This is really not the point is it.  The ones willing to do the work are the ones that will benefit in the future.  If our youth can not see that, they do not deserve to reap the benefits.

Where have I heard that phraseology before?  Oh yeah;

Some high-profile members of the GOP quickly denounced the president's remarks as divisive political rhetoric timed with the quickly approaching midterm elections.

Days later in Milwaukee, Biden didn't back down — but he did explain that his stark warning wasn't about the entire party.

"I want to be very clear up front: Not every Republican is a MAGA Republican. Not every Republican embraces that extreme ideology," said Biden, who served as vice president for eight years and as a U.S. senator for decades. "I know because I've been able to work with mainstream Republicans my whole career."

https://people.com/politics/after-dire-warning-about-trump-and-extremism-biden-says-not-every-republican-is-maga-republican/

He has mentioned only 20% are MAGA I just don’t believe he restricts that to anybody that disagrees with him or Biden.  I didn’t trust Biden when he said the above and that rhetoric has trickled down to the everyday language of politics.

Let me ask; did you get vaccinated and if so, did you, in 2022 feel that the unvaccinated were all MAGA?

Yes I was vaccinated. Do I think all the unvaccinated are MAGA? No. But the vast majority are. I looked up the % of the US population that have at least 1 shot and it actually fits what @auburnatl1 was saying about conspiracy theorists. Only 20% of the population have not received 1 shot.

Tragic. Makes me wish Trump would have fixed it permanently when during the first two years of his Presidency he had a majority in the House and Senate and 38 Republican governors. But he didn’t did he? I wonder why after all his promises and such a majority he didn’t.
