I would say the 1988 team with Tracy Rocker,Aundrey Bruce, Quentin Riggins, Benji Roland, Ron Stallworth, Smokey Hodge, Kurt Krain???, Carlos Cheatum and others. That defense was incredible.

I agree totally, that was during my time at AU. I don't know how you quantify talent, but that defense played as a TEAM batter than any defense I have ever seen. I have many of those games on video, and I occasionally go back and watch them. They were totally stifling.

Ron Stallworth played high school ball here in pensacola. He was a beast. I'm surprised he didn't have more of a pro career.

A long time ago...even prior to my memories..but wasn't the 1957 championshiip team renown for an unreal defense including an unbelievable number of shut outs?

Anyone have memories and/or stats from that team handy?

[P.S. With next year's talent and Muschamp's coaching added to CTT's defensive expertise, I expect the 2006 to make it into the top echelon of your list, Stat! Sounds like Muschamp had 'em really fired up and aggressive this spring.]

We have had some good defenses since then, but I don't think we have had a defense that was intimidating as that one. They say that the athletes these days are better than those of 20 years ago however I say the athletes on the '88 defense were beter that anything you would find on a college team today. That defense was comprised of All-Americans accross the board.
