If you were the assistant HC, and they made you interim HC, then waited until they saw if you could coach - wouldn't that be an insult? I mean, if he was an assistant HC, obviously he could coach. And what would have happened if they had lost?

Not necessarily. It is one thing to be an assistant, but another to be the guy calling all the shots. Just because the toy department manager does a great job does not mean that same person will make a good store manager. Many great assistants have turned out to be duds as a head coach.

Seeing how he handled all the pre-game contreversy and put a whooping on OU, I think it pretty much made it clear then they he has the ability to be a good HC. However, one game is not a whole season either.

This looks like a panic hire to me. He may turn out to be an awesome HC, but the odds are greatly stacked against that...with another coaching search in the near future.
