Demond Washington visiting Jan 17

I saw where Demond Washington was visiting us this weekend. He is a 5* CB ( http://auburn.scout.com/a.z?s=6&p=8&am...amp;nid=3783364 ) at Mississippi Gulf Coast right now. He is a soft verbal to Mississippi, but has us as the only other school for him to be interested in.

I hope Chizik can pull this guy in.. we definitely need some help in the secondary.

Just looked on Rivals.. they have him as a 3* ATH. Noticed a headline on him and it says "JUCO ATH likely to make switch to AU." Anybody can read that, so I am not posting anything for members only.. cause I am not one myself.

He says he's "rock solid" w/ Ole Miss and will not be playing "defense" for AU.

Wow, those quotes are DRASTICALLY contrasting to what he said in the Rivals article:

"I'm going to Auburn for a visit and I'll probably be a Tiger the way it's looking," said Washington.

"I'd love to play on offense, but if I have to play another position at Auburn and that will get me back closer to home, I'm thinking I'm willing to do it," he said. "I'll probably decommit from Ole Miss and commit to Auburn. It'd be nice to get back home."

Being from Tallassee, Auburn would certainly be closer to home. And with JP entering the NFL draft, DM might be looking at some early PT.

I'm going to have to side with the Scout article on this one. Why would a guy come straight out and say that he was probably going to de-commit and swap. That just sounds uber-stupid. Sounds to me like the Rivals reporter was probably the one referenced in the Scout article.

I dont know, but the Rivals quotes are DIRECTLY from Washington himself. The Auburn Rivals guys are kind of idiots but I would be very disappointed if they straight up made quotes up. Again, this wasn't reported as: "sources state that Washington is expected to be favoring Auburn now..." it was reported as: "Washington says, direct quote, ""I'm going to Auburn for a visit and I'll probably be a Tiger the way it's looking."

One of the following is what happened:

1) the guys at Rivals completely made quotes up.

2) Washington and/or us is trying to keep it under wraps until he actually visits, at which point he will commit

3) Washington has some out-of-this world selective memory and/or changes his mind unlike anything I've ever seen before.

Dont all recruits have out-of-this world selective memory this time of year.

Please keep in mind the Scout article was posted on the OLE MISS Scout site. This could be a case of a kid backpeddling to keep his offer at Ole Miss in case he decided NOT to commit to AU.

FWIW, Goldberg at AL.com said he HEARD the taped interview with the Auburn Rivals guys and Demond was quoted correctly.

Sounds to me that the kid thought he was talking off the record and when it got out and the phone started ringing, he started to calm the waters. I'd hate to lose a guy because he backed off when his intentions were reported too soon.

Plus, Ole Miss has taken from us too much lately. We got Rocker. Time to take a bit more back from him.

Is he a 5 star db and 3 star rb?

Rumors hit the internet that the 5-Star athlete had decommitted from Ole Miss and committed to Auburn after one of his junior college coaches was interviewed by Auburn for the offensive line position which has yet to filled.

"That stuff is not true at all," stated the always personable Demond Washington. "I am still committed to Ole Miss. I just called Coach Dickerson at Ole Miss to let him know it was not true."

How did those rumors get started?

"Some reporter from Alabama called me and told me that he heard that I decommitted from Ole Miss and committed to Auburn, and I told him it was not true. He kept saying, you know between me and you that you are going to, trying to get me to say that I decommitted, and I told him that I was still solid with Ole Miss, but I was going to take a visit to Auburn this weekend. The next thing I know, he went out and basically said that I was headed to Auburn, which was totally not true."

Why visit Auburn this weekend if Demond is still committed to Ole Miss?

"Ole Miss wants me at running back. Auburn is offering me as a cornerback. But Eltoro Freeman, a teammate of mine just enrolled at Auburn. He keeps telling me how badly Auburn wants me down there. There is nothing to it. It is just a visit. I want to play offense. I am not playing defense in college. I just played defense this year to help the team out. But I am not going to Auburn to play defense. I am still rock solid with Ole Miss. I gave them my word, and I am not going back on it. I am just going over to Auburn to hang out with Eltoro Freeman because I told him I would. There is nothing to it."

Demond rushed for 1, 180 yards and 12 TD's as a freshman. He moved over to cornerback as a sophomore and totaled 55 tackles, 18 pass deflections, 7 interceptions and he returned 3 of them for TD's. He was named 1st Team All-American for his play on the field.

Maybe its me, but if I was a 1st team AA, shouldn't that be the position I need to be playing? He obviously excelled at CB.

I wonder if he would be so adamant about his position if an NFL team wanted him at CB but not RB. :)

I can read the writing on the wall if he goes to Ole Miss... he'll be a db before he's done. Someone should point this out to him ;)

Let's see...play CB for $2M per year in the NFL or play RB for Domino's Pizza. Tough choice. Do you get a Hummer with the pizza gig? Get hit much? What kind of facilities do they have?

What if he played CB but was the punt and kick off returner. Especially since T. Davis has graduated.

The Auburn Rivals reporters record all their interviews. He was just back peddling on what he said and after his visit this weekend, it looks more like he will be a Tiger.
