Auburn Takes Down No. 7 Arkansas, 13-2, Leaves Baum Two Games Back Of The SEC West Lead

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Grant Dayton struck out 10 in what was a brilliant outing by the junior southpaw and the Auburn bats erupted for 13 runs on 16 hits to claim a 13-2 win over No. 7 Arkansas at Baum Stadium on Sunday and move to within two games of first place in the SEC West with three conference weekends remaining, two of which Auburn will play at home. Auburn’s record stands at 30-15 overall and 12-9 SEC while Arkansas remains in first in the SEC West with a 35-10, 14-7 SEC mark.

Auburn’s series win over Arkansas was its second straight in Fayetteville and marked just the fourth time all season that Arkansas has lost back-to-back games and the first time both were at Baum Stadium.

Trent Mummey and Brian Fletcher each had three-hit days for Auburn while Kevin Patterson and Casey McElroy each had two hits and four RBI.

Good to see the baseball team emerging from its funk of the last few seasons...hopefully they'll finish it up strong.

We're essentially a lock for the SEC tourney, correct?

We still need to win our home series, but they are against #6 in the west and #5 in the east so we should win those.

If the Tourney started today, the seeds would be as follows (only top 8 get in):

  1. South Carolina (16-5)
  2. Florida (15-6)
  3. Arkansas (14-7)
  4. Ole Miss (14-7)
  5. Auburn (12-9)
  6. LSU (11-10)
  7. Vanderbilt (10-9)
  8. UAT (9-12)
    ------------------
  9. Tennessee (8-13)
  10. Kentucky (7-14)
  11. MSU (5-16)
  12. Georgia (3-16)

Of the teams behind us, Vandy and UAT would win a tie breaker. We have MSU, UT and @ Ole Miss remaining.

UAT on the other hand finishes with Florida, Ole Miss, @ UT. Vandy finishes with @ LSU, @ MSU, Arkansas. LSU's remaining series are Vandy, @ UK, MSU.
