Yeah, the bammers are already crowing about how he's doing that to prove he can backpedal in pass coverage, meaning he's going to play linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

You'd think they'd give up on thinking they'll flip him after a while...

Of course, they'd say the same thing about us and Reuben Foster

Yeah, but then Foster isn't recruiting for Bama, he's hanging out at the Auburn athletics complex every day. That's the biggest difference. I'm not counting on Foster for this class, but I think we have a heck of a lot better chance at flipping him than they do of flipping Dee or Tennessee has of flipping Lawson.

Oh, no doubt. It is honestly sounding like Bama is becoming less and less likely, and Tray Matthews said recently in an interview that it's down to AU and UGA for both of them.

Rivals Chat on Dee:  "Liner looked solid on Saturday, good but no spectacular. On Sunday he worked out as a LB which showed his athleticism."

Dee Liner

Football doesn't slow down during the summer for Muscle Shoals' Dee Liner.

Rated one of the top high school prospects in Alabama and one of

the best strongside defensive linemen in the nation, the rising senior

has crisscrossed the state, the South and the country attending camps

and visiting college campuses.

And there's still more to come for the Auburn verbal commitment.

"I've been working hard all June," Liner said. "I've been going

to camps. I went down there to Alabama for my team playing in 7-on-7. I

just supported them, but I didn't do anything because I don't play

7-on-7.

"Then I went to the Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta and worked out

with some of the best high school players in the country. And now, I

just got back from vacation at USC. I haven't traveled this much in my

life, but it's been a lot of fun."

The Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge last weekend included most of

the top-rated high school prospects nationally, as identified by

recruiting website Rivals.com.

The event was not open to college coaches, but Liner said he liked being able to showcase his skills against top-level talent.

He even had an unexpected chance to show off his diversity and athleticism playing a different position.

"Ruben Foster, he got hurt and they had no other linebackers from

the South," Liner said of Rivals' second-ranked player nationally. "So I

went down there and played middle linebacker a little bit, and I got

the 'most athletic' award. I hadn't played middle linebacker since

probably my freshman year.

"The competition there is pretty high, but you just have to keep

working hard, keep grinding. They saw pretty much what they wanted to

see from me. They saw my 40, they saw how quick I am off the ball, my

pass rushing moves. That's all they wanted to see."

Liner returned from the camp on Sunday, hopped on a plane Monday morning and flew to Los Angeles for an unofficial visit to USC.  He said he enjoyed his three days out west before catching a redeye home Wednesday night.

"It was cool," said Liner, who has been recruited by new Trojans

assistant and former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin, who has visited

the defensive end in Muscle Shoals. "They've got a lot of construction

going on because they're getting everything new. They've got some nice

facilities, and the weather is just gorgeous out there."

Still, later this summer, Liner plans on visiting LSU with former

Muscle Shoals teammate Logan Stokes, a tight end at Northeast

Mississippi Community College who verbally committed to LSU recently.

He also plans to visit Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Liner has yet to take any official visits, but said he will take all five during the fall.

"Right now, I'm just having fun," Liner said.

The trips and his rise in national notoriety since verbally

pledging to Auburn last June have evoked questions of his commitment.

Liner continues to plainly strike them down.

"Everywhere I go, a lot of people ask me if I'm still 100 percent

committed to Auburn," Liner said. "I'm 110 percent committed to Auburn.

"It gets annoying after a while, but I think it's kind of funny

because everybody is going to see where I'm going to go on signing day.

The class that we've got ? it's going to be a really good defense down

there at Auburn."

Liner even said he expects Foster, who is an Alabama verbal

commit and with whom Liner has grown close, to flip to Auburn by the

time high school seniors can first officially sign with college programs

on Feb. 6.

On a personal note, Liner said he has gained at least 25 pounds

during the offseason and is now up to 284 pounds on his 6-foot-3 frame.

He had 16 sacks at Muscle Shoals last season but said he wants to improve his quickness off the ball.

"He's one of the quickest first-step guys I've ever seen, but I

think he has a lot of room to improve," Muscle Shoals coach Scott Basden

said. "I'd like to see him just dominate everything, not three out of

four. I want him to dominate four out of four. I think that if he can

get to that level of 100 percent every play, then I think he will have a

chance to go and compete for a starting position and playing time right

away (in college).

"One thing I really liked about Dee this spring is that he led.

He led the units in workouts. That was a big thing in my mind, seeing

him mature to that level."

As for the Trojans, Liner expects big things in his senior season this fall.

Muscle Shoals returns a loaded defense, but it's on offense where

the Trojans have fizzled in the playoffs, particularly in passing the

ball.

But at the Alabama 7-on-7 camp, which emphasizes passing and

receiving, the Trojans placed third behind Carver-Montgomery and Vigor.

"The team looked great down there (in Tuscaloosa)," Liner said.

"The boys worked real hard. ...The offense is really looking good. We

lost two running backs last year, but we have our whole defense back. I

think we'll get to throw the ball a lot this summer and this season. Our

quarterback, Ryan Ware, he's gotten a lot better.

"Watch out this year because we're coming. We're hungry for it."

I think it's perfect. Think about what "2" represents. Only way he could have made it better is to say they had a 27% chance, and Auburn's chance was "only" 28%...

Yeah Dee puts it out there....110% Auburn. Not the usual commit talk" I'm solid...BUT...". Man just got back from USC too, and says 110% committed to us. Gotta love it.

Why isn't Dee at the opening?

Did not compete at the Nike prelim camps required to be invited to The Opening.

Before calling the medics and having heart failures, just know this is a very minor thing involving Dee intervening on his Mom's behalf.  There IS an arrest record on July 1, but the charges will probably be dropped.  Of course, it will become a mountain, rather than a molehill, but Dee's standing with us is not in jeopardy.

Yeah I posted this yesterday to see if it was legit or if anyone knew the backstory, but it was deleted before anyone saw it

From everything I seen aupops has it right, something about taking up for his mother.

AUPOPS is spot on, not sure if the details will ever come out, but his story matches what I have been hearing.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
