Gov. Perry deploying Texas National Guard to the U.S. border

Monday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry ® announced he is deploying 1,000 Texas National Guard to the U.S. border with Mexico, saying he can not idly sit by while "our citizens are under siege."

Pointing out the tens of thousands pf unaccompanied minors only make up roughly 20 percent of those being apprehended illegally crossing the border, Perry said he can no longer wait for the president to act as gang members and drug cartels flood into Texas, causing crime to skyrocket. Perry pointed out Texas tax payers can not bear the expense of processing and housing the surge of illegal immigration caused by President Obama's 2012 executive action "Dream Act" which has given people in Central America the idea children will be allowed to stay once in the U.S.

Perry has repeatedly called on President Obama to visit the border, calling his refusal Obama’s “Katrina,” moment.

So, who will Obama stand up to first: Putin, Perry, or Netanyahu.

$17 million dollars a month at the expense of Texas citizens, which come with cuts to programs for US citizens..... all to just do some grandstanding for 2016.

One Alabama man has it figured out though:

Yeah, the current plan is working to perfection.

Not a fan of Gov. Perry, but the president has done nothing to circumvent this issue, or at the least address it. A summit later this week is just as much grandstanding as Perry and the National Guard. At least he's pushing some chips into the middle.

I don't support what either have done. I actually support the Quit Eatin plan.

Wow, he pays over $100 per day and can't get people to show up for work, so he has to hire illegals. Yes, it is a shame the welfare and food stamp crowd can't pick sweet potatoes, but I guess the work would be just, too hard work for them!

Not sure if the 17 million figure is correct or what the state of Texas would pay the Guard normally even if they didn't deploy, but it is not as if we are just burying the money in Mexico.

That buys trucks, jeeps, fuel, food, supplies, computers, phones, etc, etc. Allot of that money puts people to work. Of course, I agree it would be allot easier to just do nothing (Obama for example) oh wait Obama wants, 3.5 billion is it, without the military at the border keeping us safe?

Man, this all just doesn't make sense. Can't we all just go on food stamps, let the illegals flood across the border, put them on welfare, food stamps, medicaid, give them public housing, and Obama Phone, then call it a day?

$100 a day? I am going to assume that he expects more than 8 hrs a day work because if he is paying 12.50 an hour and can't find legal citizens to work for him, even picking veg in the hot sun, then he is not looking.

That ongoing state police operation is estimated to cost about $5 million a month, so Texas could be spending $17 million or more per month for border security when the operation is in full swing

http://www.texastribune.org/2014/07/21/perry-activate-1000-guard-troops/

Those cuts and shifts of money also put quite a few people out of work. My sister works for the State of Texas and its very possible this could cost her her job when those cuts start going through.

And I think the biggest statement out of that clip is "he supports immigration laws, just not the ones that threaten his third generation families farm". Basically... I'm all for immigration control until it takes a toll on my take home.

It is also the skilled ones that can make that money, that 100 bucks is rare cause if it wasn't then he wouldn't have a issue getting 15 people and keeping them, the ones learning the job only bring in like 20 dollars (its based on weight/bushels picked etc). So ya, quite a few people are gonna say screw this for 20 dollars before taxes. Farm jobs don't have to pay a minimum wage and it could cost some of these people 20 bucks in gas a day to get to these jobs and back. Comes back to living wage.

And money from Obama's plan would go to the border:

The Department of Homeland Security, which is responsible for apprehending and removing undocumented immigrants, would receive $1.1 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and $433 million for Customs and Border Protection.

Interesting that you use the word military, cause Perry is really really trying to claim he is not militarizing the border.

So how would you secure our border? You do understand the southern border of the United States of America is not, repeat, is not secure!!

The State of Texas with no State Income Tax, low other taxes, and low govt. regulation, is economically booming. Jobs are plenty, tell your sis not to worry!

Texas added another 19,100 jobs in June alone, which leads the nation!!

$100 a day? I am going to assume that he expects more than 8 hrs a day work because if he is paying 12.50 an hour and can't find legal citizens to work for him, even picking veg in the hot sun, then he is not looking.

So it can't be that Americans are that lazy? How about 10 hours per day for over $100? How many hours per day do you think he requires?

He's not looking or people don't want to work?

It's what his top worker will make. Farms do not have to give a minimum wage, and he isn't. You have to read the other articles about the issue in Alabama, but through those you will see these jobs are based on bushels or baskets or weight and most walk away with barely enough to pay for the gas to get here. Many in the state are not physically fit enough to perform these jobs.

You can also see in this article that the State tried to help connect the two, but only three employers participated at the time:

Three employers with a total of 39 jobs available have signed up for the program.

Here is what he says:

"Most American workers aren't in good enough shape. They can't do this work. You get two, three or four hours out of them, and they're gone. They say they can't do this no more," Smith said.

He said he has heard of the state program, but he hasn't tried it because he doesn't think he will get any better quality workers.

"I ain't signed up for it. Why should I call them when I've got people calling me?" Smith said.

Smith, who freely admits he used illegal immigrants to pick sweet potatoes, said three-quarters of his crop is still in the field after his workers moved away.

I'd jack people like Keith Smith from Cullman up. Financially and with jail time. Turn him into a criminal for hiring them.

Take away the incentive for illegals to want to come here.

I can give you story after story, example after example. In my own sub-division there are 5 houses under construction, and 4 more are to start 1 Aug. (Florida's Gulf Coast) I talk to the main contractor weekly (In meetings and casually). From the cement workers, to the framers, roofers, sheet rock layers, ceiling men, exterior to interior painters, etc... the biggest problem is finding help and then getting the help to actually show up for work sober!!

His lowest paying job (helper, gofer, light holder) pays $11.25 on up to more experienced carpenters and painters, roofers that make over $20 per hour. He actually offers beer at the end of the day to those that show-up on time and don't leave early. He literally has open hiring on a continued bases because most who start working for him and his company last an average of less than two weeks.

Spoke to my USAF buddy the other day who is dating the "head manager of maids and cleaning" of two USAF billeting (military hotels) She recently got permission from the govt to double hire all maids (they start at $9.25 per hour work on up to $12 per hour). Why double hire? The turnover is so great in-order to keep a staff they must hire two for every one open position.

She was telling me it is common practice to schedule more than needed to account for the maids that won't show-up for work. She said, she normally needs around 30 maids per day, so she has to schedule 40 to 45 to make up for all of the daily no-shows!

I'm not making this stuff up and these are just a couple examples. I mean why work? One can get welfare, food stamps, WIC, our public schools give free breakfast, free lunch, free take home snack, Obama phone, live in a housing project or HUD home, utility assistance, go to school for free, (Pell Grants to low income), free health care (Medicaid), in some states free transportation, free child care, free computers, (to students going to school for free), meals on wheels, and the list goes on. So why work for $10 or $12 per hour?

If you don't believe me, listen to the Pres of United Farm Workers below:

Arturo S. Rodriguez, president of United Farm Workers, said migrant farm workers are exposed to blistering heat with little or no shade.. It's skilled work, he said, requiring produce pickers to be exact and quick. While the best mushroom pickers can earn about $40,000 to $45,000 a year for piece work, there's little chance for a good living and American workers don't seem interested in farm jobs.

"It is extremely difficult, to find American labor, it is hard, dangerous work," Rodriguez said.

Last year Rodriguez's group started the "Take Our Jobs" campaign to entice American workers to take the fields. He said of about 86,000 inquiries the group got about the offer, only 11 workers took jobs. Most off those 11 did not last.

We all want our subsidies but, we never want to acknowledge them as such. We want our mortgage interest deduction but, we don't want to think about it as a subsidy. We want artificially lower food cost but, we don't want to think about it as a subsidy. We love socialism when it works for us as individuals.

Maybe we should pay people a living wage rather than floating them along with subsidies?

Who Started the Obama Phone?

“Who started the Obama Phone?” is one of the questions that’s asked most frequently about this government program.

The simple answer is that any number of Presidents could claim credit for it, but the program is usually called the Obama Phone because it expanded so rapidly during his administration.

That growth, of course, is partially related to the financial meltdown, the subsequent recession, and lingering economic issues. The number of Americans eligible for the program has grown dramatically recent years and the program has expanded to meet that demand.

But perhaps we should look back at a little history to determine the real architect of the free phone program. A timeline of the program’s history makes it difficult to pinpoint an exact date the program was created and blurs the possibility of assigning credit or blame (depending on your opinion of the program).
