AURex 1,995
Auburn Men were slightly better than the Women at the NCAA. Two finished in the top 10 (7th and 8th) in their event. As a team, Auburn finished in 9th, with both Florida and UGA from the SEC finishing higher. Auburn was about 350 points behind the winning team, Texas. In fact, the familiar perpetual top teams were all still up there competing for the title -- Texas, Cal, Michigan, USC -- with only Auburn no longer in the picture. Again, this is not a criticism of our Auburn athletes, who worked very hard all year and did their best in this national competition. But Hawke has not been able to recruit the top swimmers that Marsh did, and Auburn's team has declined steadily during his tenure.
AU64 10,122
Isn't that what everyone said about Muschamp and JJ. Muschamp would never come back, but here he is. Two different situations. Will Muschamp, (bless his heart), is no David Marsh. In Muschamp you have a failed head coach seeking shelter from the storm. In Marsh, you have a coach with ten National Championships to his credit that is currently highly successful in a very lucrative and rewarding position. Marsh might return to Auburn if he were offered the AD job but I don't think he comes back for less than that. Who knows ho many offers Marsh has had...and IMO, no use crying over him being gone...he's gone and That's that. As you say, he has a great situation where he does not have go out and beg kids to come to his school and is not under any pressure to win. It's impossible to imagine a better situation for a coach and teacher.
