Baseball vs Texas A&M game 1

Recommended Posts

Burns looking sharp tonight......AU getting guys on base but not able to score yet.  Holland still having problems at the plate to a K swinging at a ball in the dirt. Williams singled and was later thrown out after he tripped over second base on his way to third after a single behind him.

AU showing signs of getting some runs but not able to cash in...still 0-0 in top of 3rd  and Julien takes a called 3rd strike to leave two runners on.

TB yet to give up a hit...

We really needed Burns to go at least 7 tonight and it doesn’t look likely.

There's a possibility he may come out for the 7th. He's at about 94-95 pitches. He looked pretty good in the 6th.

Unfortunately there is no clutch hitting by this team lately. Get a single then hit into a double play. Hopefully soon the hits will come.

This team is struggling to get into a rhythm right now. If baseball had an idle week like football, now would be the time to have it. We need a reset.

Boy that's the truth. They are really out of sync.

I'm hoping that getting our 2 pitchers back will act as a reset of sorts. It should relieve some of the pressure anyway, and that can do wonders for a team that's struggling.

Started the game getting some hits but that pretty much ended after a few innings it seems....7 hits but no runs....aggie pitchers have scattered them pretty well and we ran ourselves out of one potential rally when the game was 0-0.

This is likely to be a tough weekend.

Why do we always take the first pitch - usually strike 1?

I swear I have seen Bliss, Howell, Scheffler and to some extent, Ward hit first pitch a good amount of times this season, and a good bit of the time those have not worked out well.

It’s possible the approach the coaches are asking for, but a more relevant question may be why does every pitcher from every team feel so comfortable throwing a strike on the first pitch.

If a team proves they will not swing at the first pitch or will not swing until the pitcher throws a strike, why would you not throw a strike on the first pitch?

Will Holland sometimes swings at the first pitch. IIRC the last HR he hit was a first pitch blast. But usually when he swings at the first pitch he is not successful.

As for the game last night....AU is now 4-9 since the Miss State series....got beat up in that series and since then the hitting and pitching have been struggling.

Not sure what it is gonna take to break out of the doldrums...but having the injured pitchers back should help but offense needs to step up...been shut out several times recently.

We REALLY need at least one win from the aggies.   I'd say our best opportunity was last night with Burns but he got no run support...so now it's up to the youngsters to hold the scoring down and hope the hitters are able to help.
