James just got drafted by Seattle.

Yeah, I'm not sure how Auburn having very limited success in 5-10% of their athletics negates being mid in the other 90-95%. With the amount of revenue that the entire department brings in, you'd think we'd be near the top of the SEC across the board, not near the bottom with other schools that earn significantly less than what Auburn does.

Roster Management - Spring Game Week Edition
HabitualChiller replied to Zeek's topic in AU Football Forum
I think the bold is the issue. A guy with as much experience as he has had shouldn't be making basic mistakes. If Auburn were loaded, he'd probably be fine, but when the team's talent isn't great enough to overcome 6-7 miscues a game by the quarterback, then the losses start to pile up. If he were a sophomore making late reads and missing open receivers, he'd be on the bench. You'd think that a guy with [about to be] five seasons of football under his belt would be able to get the basic things consistently right at a minimum. Freeze knows that he really only has three years to show his mettle, and Peyton wasting two of them is a death sentence unless the team were to win 9-10 games in 2025. -
A 4.8 40 for a WR is abhorrent even in the Sun Belt conference. A 4.8 wouldn't even work in the Canadian Football League, and he's too weak/small to play TE or DE as of now.

I liked our chances before. DeBoer was able to field a national championship-worthy defense at Washington where the only recruiting hotbed was Cali. You drop him in the deep south with a team that is already loaded and a sure-fire coaching staff that specializes in offense, and you have the makings of another dynasty. If we couldn't beat the worst Bama team in a decade-and-a-half, then I'm really not sure about where we'll stand in the next few years.

Being an Auburn fan is incredibly difficult. It's always some tomfoolery afoot that usually results in a loss🤣.
-
There's no way he was recruiting that damn much. We have great recruiters outside of him and Auburn routinely sleepwalks into at least a top 15 class.

I'd take Kiffin period.

QUICK: How many regular season wins does Auburn have in 2024?
HabitualChiller replied to W.E.D's topic in AU Football Forum
I'm going with 6 wins. In order, we'll beat: Alabama A&M Cal New Mexico Arkansas Vanderbilt & ULM Kentucky is a toss-up depending on how the teams looks in the [hopeful] wins against the first 4 teams. We're getting sauced in the other 5 games. I think A&M will be good next season. Lastly, I don't think Hugh can afford another 6-6 season. -

That's better than what we've seen from Thorne the past 3 games... -

Not blaming Geriner for that pick. Freeze put him in an awful spot by not burning a timeout to avoid a delay of game on 4th down. -

And Thorne misses a receiver that's wide open😂😂. Dude is awful. -

The issue is that he needs a literally perfect offensive roster in order to be competent. At MSU, he had a great receiver, great running back and solid O-Line and still didn't do anything. You can say that he's mid. No one here will judge you. -

Payton Thorne is so garbage😂. Why people on here still believe in him is mind-blowing. -

Let's not act like our O-line is anywhere near as bad as Colorado's. It quite obviously isn't. Colorado's line is quite possibly the worst in the power 5. -

Wow! Didn't have the team getting mopped up by the backup and 3rd string quarterback on my bingo card. It's so disappointing that it's funny. -

AU vs. Maryland in Nashville for Music City Bowl
HabitualChiller replied to RunInRed's topic in AU Football Forum
Should be a pretty entertaining game. If the defense shows up (which they most likely will), then I'm going with an Auburn win of something along the lines of 31-14. -
Based off that chart, I'm leaning to the O-line having trouble in pass pro, and Thorne being pretty bad...and the receivers dropping passes probably contributed to that as well.

Jaylin Simpson when asked if he likes Under Armour
HabitualChiller replied to GwillMac6's topic in AU Football Forum
I wish Auburn would switch to Adidas or something. Under Armour is kind of wack. -
In regards to the bolded, I wouldn't even say that someone like that is even a good quarterback because what happens when he plays a defense that is just as talented as / more than his offense? They'd struggle like Thorne did against Ohio State and Michigan in 2022.
-
Factoring in that the O-line isn't THAT bad, and the incoming flock of receivers are stellar, I'd say that, yes, a 1-year rental is great. If Freeze had 5 years to make something happen, I'd agree with you, but he needs at least 7-8 wins. Looking at the schedule for next year, there's a guaranteed 3-4 wins. He can't afford to turn-in another 6-6 season unless he goes sicko mode in recruiting and most of the losses are close.

2024 5*+ WR Cam Coleman FLIPS TO AU FROM A&M!!!

Can we get a Quarterback now? Getting 5-star receivers is all dandy, but we need someone to get the ball to them. -
Thorne played a miniscule role in most of the 6 wins we had. Let's not act like he was putting up 200 yards and 2 touchdowns a game... I feel like we won in spite of him at times. You can't watch him miss / almost miss easy throws on a weekly basis and say that my post was an over-reach. UGA scoring 3 times in a row to end the game isn't even a knock on the defense. UGA has top-notch talent offensively and happened to wake up towards the end of the game. The D playing out of their minds for 3 quarters was an aberration, not the norm. Remember, THAT'S THE #1 TEAM in the nation.
