Kofi wants to be world president

Kofi now says that in his eyes and the UN's eyes that the war on Iraq was illegal. If so, then why doesn't the UN throw us out, revoke our membership? Because the hypocritical little whores still want our wealth and our strength. It's time to pull out of the UN. They are bitching about security in Iraq but will only send up to 35 people there. Hypocrits.

Annan: Iraq War 'Illegal' Without U.N. OK

Thu Sep 16, 6:45 AM ET

UNITED NATIONS - U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan (news - web sites) said in a BBC interview that the Bush Administration's decision to go to war in Iraq (news - web sites) was "illegal" because it didn't have U.N. Security Council approval.

The U.N. Charter allows nations to take military action with Security Council approval as an explicit enforcement action, such as during the Korean War and the 1991 Gulf War (news - web sites).

But in 2003, in the buildup to the Iraq war, the United States dropped an attempt to get a Security Council resolution approving the invasion when it became apparent it would not pass.

"I hope we do not see another Iraq-type operation for a long time — without U.N. approval and much broader support from the international community," he said in an interview with the BBC World Service on Wednesday.

At the time, Annan had underlined the lack of legitimacy for a war without U.N. approval, saying: "If the United States and others were to go outside the Security Council and take unilateral action they would not be in conformity with the Charter."

On Wednesday, after being asked three times whether the lack of council approval for the war meant it was illegal, he said: "From our point of view and the UN Charter point of view it was illegal."

On Thursday, British Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt said her government disagreed with Annan. Britain was a leading supporter of the U.S.-led invasion and argued that three earlier U.N. resolutions provided the legal basis for toppling the government of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

"There have always been different views on that matter and ... of course I respect his views on this matter and I regret that we disagree with them," Hewitt told BBC radio.

"The important thing now is that we and the U.N. and the international community continue working with the Iraqi people so that they can achieve what they all want, which is a safe, secure, democratic Iraq."

Annan also said that the wave of violence engulfing Iraq puts in doubt the national elections scheduled for January.

There could not be "credible elections if the security conditions continue as they are now," he told the BBC.

On Tuesday, Annan's top envoy to Iraq, Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, said the security situation will be the overriding factor in determining how many U.N. international staffers can return to Iraq. There is now a ceiling of 35 U.N. staff in the country.

Qazi spoke Tuesday at a Security Council meeting called to discuss Annan's latest report on Iraq, which warned that violence could make it more difficult to create the conditions for successful elections. Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has said he is determined to hold the election by Jan. 31.

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (news - web sites), John Danforth, all but ruled out any delay beyond the Jan. 31 deadline for elections in Iraq's interim constitution.

"Let there be no doubt: we are committed to this timetable," he told council members Tuesday.

Boortz's thoughts on this one.

KOFI ANNAN SAYS IRAQ WAR ILLEGAL

This should come as a surprise to exactly no one.  Speaking last night to the BBC, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan said that the war in Iraq was "illegal" and not "in conformity" with either the UN Security Council or the UN Charter. Oh really?

Apparently, Kofi doesn't read too many of his own UN Security Council resolutions.  Does he remember the ones that authorized the use of force unless Saddam Hussein complied?  I guess not.  Does he not think it is a good idea that Saddam Hussein is sitting in jail?  Did he prefer it when the dictator was in power, torturing and raping the population?  Probably...Annan has never met a dictator he didn't like.  Freedom and liberty is not something that is a high priority at the U.N.  Never has been. Or could it be that he's upset that his pockets are no longer being lined by Saddam Hussein now that the U.N.'s oil-for-food rip off has been shut down?

I've covered this in depth before, so this is the Reader's Digest version.  Read UN Resolutions 678, 687 and 1441.  Read together these resolutions do the following:

Demand that Saddam Hussein leave Kuwait.

Demand that Saddam Hussein immediately dispose of all weapons of mass destruction

Require that Saddam Hussein provide ample proof to the United Nations that these weapons have been destroyed and that no active weapons program for such weapons exists.

Allow any member nation of the United Nations to take military action against Saddam Hussein if the provisions of these resolutions are not completely complied with.

Saddam didn't comply.  The U.S. is a member nation of the United Nations.  The U.S. compelled compliance through the use of military force, as authorized by these resolutions. End of story.

What's more alarming here is Kofi the Korrupt's idea that the United Nations is in a position to decide when the United States can legally use military force in its own defense.  That, by the way, is a view shared by The Poodle.

Go figure, the UN was making so much money during the oil for food scam they should all resign.

Where was the UN when Sodom and his sons were killing thousands of people?

Where has the UN been during the genocide in Sudan?
