Auburn Krispy Kreme slated for spring completion date

As Auburn’s new Krispy Kreme takes shape outside Auburn Mall, those with a sweet tooth can look forward to dozens of doughnuts that are Hot Now coming to the Plains this spring.

Construction has been rapidly progressing over the past few weeks, and the store is slated to open in the spring with a grand opening intended for sometime in April, a representative of Krispy Kreme said this week.

“Construction is moving very quickly on this shop,” said Sarah Roof, corporate communications coordinator for Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation.

According to Roof, the shop will incorporate classic Krispy Kreme elements including a drive-thru and will initially employ about 50 people, with that number potentially changing as the opening date draws nearer.

Construction of the new Krispy Kreme coincides with a project to revitalize a portion of Auburn Mall, preliminary details for which were announced in July. Hull Property Group, which manages the mall, announced then that a development is planned that will bring up to 10 new businesses to the mall by repurposing unused space and developing retail and restaurant outparcels with enhanced facades on the site facing both Opelika Road and East University Drive.

The new development would likely entail the demolition of the old Sears, according to Coles Doyle, marketing director for Hull Property Group.
