AUEngineer2016 407
With all of the talk about Kendall Briles and our OC position next year, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at what Kendall had done this year as OC vs his production when Art was the HC. This should give a pretty good indication as to whether or not Kendall is a legit P5 OC or just riding the coattails of his father (FWIW, I think it's the former). First - Sources! 2015-2016 Stats, 2016-2017 Stats Pre-Table notes: Kendall officially took over play-calling duties from Art during December of 2014 before the Bear's bowl game. He has been full-time OC since then. Quote Year Rushing Yards/Game Passing Yards/Game Avg. Total Offense Points/Game 2014 - 2015 215.5 365.9 581.5 48.2 2015 - 2016 326.7 289.5 616.2 48.1 2016 - 2017 245.5 303.5 548.8 42.0 But AUEngineer2016, what does it all mean?! It means that Kendall is capable of being an exceptional OC in his own right, which is a good indicator that he will be able to run a high-powered offense if he comes to Auburn next year. Also note that Baylor's production between the 2014 and 2015 seasons shifted to focus, but their total offense actually increased. This is a good indicator for Auburn, as we want to be a run-first play action team, and these stats indicate that Kendall is capable of running an offense with that identity Bonus Stat! In last year's Russell Athletic Bowl, Baylor was using their 3rd string QB (after both Seth Russell and Jarrett Stidham went down with season-ending injuries), and they were facing an 11-2 UNC team that had won their division in the ACC. All they did was put up 756 total yards (645 of which were rushing) on Gene Chizik's defense, which had overachieved up until that point. Kendall proved with that game that he can change his offense to best fit the skill set of his best players.
