Thread hijack. Rather than list "must see" movies, how about we list one obscure movie and give some reasons why you should see it. I'll start:

Abandon Ship. Made in the '50s, it stars Tyrone Power as a surviving ship's officer of an ocean liner that hits an old mine left over from the war. He's in command of a lifeboat overloaded with survivors. He has to make some tough life & death decisions regarding the fate of the survivors -- some of them heartbreaking. Of course, he just about has a mutiny on his hands because of those decisions. Good taut drama with an unexpected ending. Kind of similar to Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat but with a lot more realism. Anybody else seen this film?

You're missing out if you don't see the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
