You gave me nothing

now it's all I've got.- ONE by U2

No more turning away

from the weak and the weary

no more turning away from the coldness inside

just a world that we all must share

not enough just to stand and stare

Is it only a dream that they'll be no more turning away?- On the Turning Away Pink Floyd

"I close my eyes so I can't see the love you're not feeling when you're holding me"

Bonnie Raitt -- "I can't make you love me"

Tiger88, mine is as sad as yours. Looks like we've both been hurt before!

Everybody hurts sometimes! - rem :big::lol:

Maybe someone can help us out with some upbeat stuff.

I like happy songs too but I guess alot of my favorite lyrics come from the sadder ones. Here's one thats in between

Oughta be easy

oughta be simple enough

yeah, man meets woman and they fall in love

but this house is haunted and the ride gets rough

you've got to learn to live

With what you can't rise above

And we'll ride on down now

into this tunnel of love- Tunnel of Love da boss

Some of my favorites are songs that titles have multiple meanings like one and tunnel of love

And as we wind on down the road

Our shadows taller than our souls

There walks a lady we all know

Who shines white light and wants to show

How everything still turns to gold

And if you listen very hard

The tune will come to you at last

When all are one and one is all

To be a rock and not to roll

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Hey there fellow with the hair colored yellow

What you trying to do?

Thats my woman there and I'm a man who cares

And this might be all for you- skynard- gimme three steps

At sundown you'd better take care

If I find you been creepin round my back stairs -gordon lightfoot? gimme 3 steps reminded me of this one

I don't know if any one part of this song stood out above the others, but I always liked 88 Lines About 44 Women by The Nails.

Momma always told me not to look

into the eyes of the sun

But momma that's where the fun is

Blinded By The Light by (take your pick) Bruce Springsteen or Manfred Mann.

dass what I'm talkin bout slag. The best of the best lyrics can stand on their own, but are even better when sung.

I've only heard that 88 lines song a few times on the radio but it is awesome. I'll buy it one day maybe.

I should have seen it coming when roses died

Should have seen the end of summer in your eyes

I should have listened when you said good night

You really meant good bye

Baby, ain't it funny, how you never ever learn to fall

You're really on your knees, when you think you're standing tall

But only fools are "know-it-alls" and i played that fool for you

This ain't a love song- Bon Jovi

You just stood there screaming

fearing no one was listening to you

they say the empty can rattles the most

the sound of your voice must soothe you

hearing only what you want to hear

and knowing only what you've heard

you, you're smothered in tragedy

you're out to save the world

Misery- Metallica

I can't cut this one to four lines. :)

Whipping Post

The Allman Brothers Band

I've been run down and I've been lied to.

And I don't know why, I let that mean woman make me a fool.

She took all my money, wrecks my new car.

Now she's with one of my good time buddies,

They're drinkin in some cross-town bar.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,

Like I been tied to the whippin post.

Tied to the whippin post, tied to the whippin post.

Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin.

My friends tell me, that I've been such a fool.

But I had to stand by and take it baby, all for lovin you.

Drown myself in sorrow as I look at what you've done.

But nothing seemed to change, the bad times stayed the same,

And I can't run.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,

Like I been tied to the whippin post.

Tied to the whippin post, tied to the whippin post.

Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,

Like I been tied to the whippin post.

Tied to the whippin post, tied to the whippin post.

Good Lord, I feel like I'm dyin.

As bad as poison sucked they did have one classic:

I hear you found somebody new

I doubt I never meant that much to you

To hear that tears me up inside

And to see you cuts me like a knife

I guess every rose has its thorns

just like every night has its dawn

just like every cowboy sings a sad sad song

yeah, every rose has its thorns

cliche ridden yes, but I like it.

Dang you tigermike, now I can't get that outa my head again:

Sometimes I feel

Sometimes I feel...

You take my life, but I'll take yours too...........

You fire your musket, but I'll run-you-through.......

So when your waiting for the next attack.........

You better stand there's no turning back......

More from Lightfoot:

When you reach the part where the heartaches come

The hero would be me

But heroes often fail

And you won’t read that book again

Because the ending’s just too hard to take

...

But for now love, let’s be real

I never thought I could feel this way

And I’ve got to say that I just don’t get it

I don’t know where we went wrong

But the feelin’s gone

And I just can’t get it back

Secret O' Life

(James Taylor)

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time

Any fool can do it

There ain't nothing to it

Nobody knows how we got to

The top of the hill

But since we're on our way down

We might as well enjoy the ride

The secret of love is in opening up your heart

It's okay to feel afraid

But don't let that stand in your way

'Cause anyone knows that love is the only road

And since we're only here for a while

Might as well show some style

Give us a smile

Isn't it a lovely ride

Sliding down

Gliding down

Try not to try too hard

It's just a lovely ride

Now the thing about time is that time

Isn't really real

It's just your point of view

How does it feel for you

Einstein said he could never understand it all

Planets spinning through space

The smile upon your face

Welcome to the human race

A little less happy Taylor, with some exposition:

Notes:

JT on Sony.com: My brother Alex died in '93 on (not for) my birthday. We all went down to Florida to say goodbye. The day after we flew home (the day after his cremation) a giant mother hurricane followed us north through the Carolina's; trashing everything in its path and finally raining record rains on Martha's Vineyard (home).

In Paris, a year later I changed his character to a hippie chick named Alice and the location to Santa Fe; but my soulful older brother is still all over this song like a cheap suit.

The sun shines on this funeral

The same as on a birth

The way it shines on everything

That happens here on Earth

It rolls across the western sky

And back into the sea

And spends the days last rays

Upon this f@#ked-up family

So long old pal

...

CHORUS:

Oh it's enough to be on your way

It's enough just to cover ground

It's enough to be moving on

Home, build it behind your eyes

Carry it in your heart

Safe among your own

They brought her back on a Friday night

Same day I was born

We sent her up the smoke stack

And back into the storm

She blew up over the San Juan mountains

And spent herself at last

The threat of heavy weather

That was what she knew the best

CHORUS

It woke me up on a Sunday

An hour before the sun

It had me watching the headlights

Out on highway 591

'Til I stepped into my trousers

'Til I pulled my big boots on

I walked out on the Mesa

And I stumbled on this song

A little Don McLean-- before the writer's block:

I met a girl who sang the blues

And I asked her for some happy news,

But she just smiled and turned away.

I went down to the sacred store

Where I’d heard the music years before,

But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

Bruck Cockburn:

the kid who guards Fonseca's tomb

cradles a beat-up submachine gun --

at age fifteen he's a veteran of four years of war

proud to pay his dues

he knows who turns the screws

baby face and old man's eyes

All right tt you've convinced me to go out and get some james taylor. That is some good stuff fo sure.

Here are some more lyrics about the secret to life:

I found the secret to life, I found the secret to life

I'm okay when everything is not okay tori amos "Upside Down"

These sound much better in the song. Very simple but very true. An important teaching of spirituality is that although you may not always be happy, you can always be at peace with the world. I haven't reached that point yet, but am light years closer than I was a year ago.

more from upside down:

And I know you're still a boy

Still coming out of your mother, upside down

It isn't a male bashing song because she sings about herself being upside down at times too.

Here are some of my favorite tori lyrics from "Take to the sky", a song she wrote before she made her break and began selling millions of records:

And the priest says, you ain't saving no souls

And my father says, you ain't making any money

The doctor says, you just took it to the limit

And here I stand with this sword in my hands

You can say it one more time, what you don't like

Let me hear it one more time then

Have a seat while I, Take to the Sky

From crucify, which I know you've heard before:

Got a kick for a dog beggin for love

I gotta have my suffering so that I can have my cross

I know a cat named easter he says

Will you ever learn?

You're just an empty cage girl if you kill the bird.....

I've been raising up my hands, drive another nail in

Just what God needs, one more victim

I really liked Little Earthquakes (I particularly liked he line you cite about "one more victim", then was less impressed with Under the Pink. Which albums do you recommend?

I haven't seen much of her on TV in while. I think she used to play Letterman once and a while.

Just saw Hide and Seek, not giving away any plot lines, just made me think of another Metallica tune

It's just the beast

Under your bed

In your closet

In your head
