Swear there ain't no Heaven

and I'll pray there ain't no hell

but I'll never know by livin'

only my dyin' will tell, yes only my

dyin' will tell, oh yeah,

Only my dyin' will tell

And when I die, and when I'm gone

there'll be, one child born, in this world

to carry on, to carry on

yeah yeah

---Blood, Sweat, and Tears, "And When I Die"

Under The pink was not near as good as LE, but there are a few really good tunes on it to say the least.

1.Boys for Pele (This is a reference to sacrificing children to the volcano so no one freak out  )

2.Scarlets walk(very mellow, post motherhood)

Are two of my favorites other than le. Many of her best songs are b-sides that aren't on her major albums including Upside Down and Take to the Sky.

She also did a double album that had a live disc that was awesome.

Say the word and I'll burn you a cd mix of some of her best stuff other than le.

Aubie 16 those are awesome lyrics.

ALIMONY

Ry Cooder

Look at this one, look at that one

Tell me do they look like me

All my (F) friends said, don't you worry

Said they'll testify for © me

Well, I (G) wonder which of (F) my friends had it in for © me

Alimony, alimony, alimony is killing me

I don't (F) want six extra children

When ain't but two that look like © me

Please, have (G) mercy, judge your (F)honor

Alimony is killing © me

Please, have mercy, judge your honor

I'm as poor as I can be

Ain't had money in my pockets

Since way back in fifty three

Can't you cut down all my payment ?

Alimony is killing me

Alimony, alimony, alimony is killing me

Alimony, alimony, alimony is killing me

Thanks for the kind offer to burn the CD. I think I may just give my copy of Under the Pink another listen and go ahead and buy a few more of her albums. I like having the liner notes. :D

BTW, I looked on her website for info and saw that she is scheduled to appear on Letterman on Feb. 17th. Seems she has an album -- Beekeeper -- coming out on Feb. 22nd.

They took all the footage off my T.V.

Said it's too disturbing for you and me

It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say

If it was up to me I'd show it everyday

Some say this country's just out looking for a fight

After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?

To see your homeland under fire

And her people blown away

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?

We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell

And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

Celebrate, we will

Cause life is short, but sweet for certain.... (Two Step, DMB)

GraveDigger, when you dig my grave

Can you make it shallow?

So that I can feel the rain? ...(GraveDigger, Dave Matthews)

Fathers, be good to your daughters

Daughters will live like you do.

Girls become lovers

Who turn into mothers.

So mothers, be good to your daughters, too. ...(I've heard it a few times, but I don't know the name, John Mayer)

And, to show my darker side......

Hush little baby don't say a word.

And nevermind that noise you heard.

ITS JUST THE BEAST UNDER YOUR BED.

IN YOUR CLOSET IN YOUR HEAD!!! ...(Enter Sandman, Metallica)

Woke up just the other day

Fell out of bed and my dog ran away.

The car won't start and the weather was cold and gray.

I got stuck in a traffic jam,

My major meeting didn't go as I planned.

Looks like it's gonna be another one of those days.

I got a roof over my head,

Someone to love me in a four poster bed,

And I can play this here guitar

I thank my lucky stars.

- Lucky Stars by Jimmy Buffett. This song always seems to keep things in perspective for me.

Out on the road today

I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac

A little voice inside my head said,

"Don't look back, you can never look back."

I thought I knew what love was,

what did I know?

Those days are gone forever,

I should just let 'em go, but...

Boys of Summer--Don Henley

Reminds me of good times in a strange way.

More from Lightfoot:

When you reach the part where the heartaches come

The hero would be me

But heroes often fail

And you won’t read that book again

Because the ending’s just too hard to take

...

But for now love, let’s be real

I never thought I could feel this way

And I’ve got to say that I just don’t get it

I don’t know where we went wrong

But the feelin’s gone

And I just can’t get it back

GREAT song. I have not thought about that one in YEARS. Thanks for reminding me of it!

Oh!...One more....

"There's no living in my life anymore. All the seas have gone dry and the rain has stopped falling. Please, don't you cry anymore. Why did you have to leave me, Why did you decieve me and send me to the land of nevermore?"

Got the bubble headed bleach blond who comes on at 5

She can tell you bout the plain wreck

With a gleam in her eye

It's interesting when people die(not 100% sure these are accurate, but..)

Give you dirty laundry

Dirty laundry is one of my favorite henley songs along with boys of summer.

88, I loved Dirty Laundry as a teenager...I remember in our English class, we did a thesaurus activity using five songs of our choosing. I came up with "Murky Jockstrap" as an alternate title for that one.

Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes

Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal

Guest Tigrinum Major

A couple years of up all night and a few thousand diapers later.

That mistake he thought he made covers up the refrigerator.

Oh yeah..........he loves that little girl.

Momma's waiting to tuck her in,

As she fumbles up those stairs.

She smiles back at him dragging that teddy bear.

Sleep tight, blue eyes and bouncin' curls.

There Goes My Life - Kenny Chesney

I was driving down the freeway with a rabid wolvering in my underwear,

When suddenly a guy jumped up behind me and he put his hands across my eyes,

I guessed is that Uncle Louie, could it be Ed or Bernie or Steve, I probably could have kept on guessing, but about that time a smashed into a wall,

And as I'm laying bleeding there on the asphalt, finally I see the face of my hibachi dealer, who takes of his prosthetic limbs and tells me, " Everything you know is wrong"

-Verse 1 of "Everything You Know is Wrong" by Weird Al from the BAD HAIR DAY album.

And so we say

We ain't diggin' no graves

We're diggin' a foundation

For a future to be made

Now I know, time can march

With it's chargin' feet

Now I know, words are only cheap

It's gonna be a burn out

All around this town

But the North is down

I can remember seeing her in Atlanta, in 1969, three weeks before I left for boot camp. Had to cut my hair. :(

Well the folk scene is dead

But he’s holding out in the village

He’s been writing songs speaking out

Against wealth and privilege

He says ’i don’t believe in money

But a man could make him a killin’

Cause some of that stuff don’t sound

Much different than dylan

I hear down there it’s changed you see

They’re not as backwards as they used to be’

He’s gone country, look at them boots

He’s gone country, back to his roots

He’s gone country, a new kind of suit

He’s gone country, here he comes

He commutes to LA

But he’s got a house in the valley

But the bills are piling up

And the pop scene just ain’t on the rally

He says ’honey I’m a serious composer

Schooled in voice and composition

But with the crime and the smog these days

This ain’t no place for children

Lord it sounds so easy it shouldn’t take long

Be back in the money in no time at all’

He’s gone country, look at them boots

He’s gone country, back to his roots

He’s gone country, a new kind of suit

He’s gone country, here he comes

Sunset Grill-Don Henley

Don’t worry girl, I’m gonna stick by you

And someday soon we’re gonna get in that

Car and get outta here

Let’s go down to the sunset grill

Watch the working girls go by

Watch the basket people walk around and

Mumble

And gaze out at the auburn sky

Maybe we’ll leave come springtime

Meanwhile, have another beer

What would we do without these jerks

Anyway?

I think he clearly defines how folks become life's losers.
