Auburn coaches ready to recruit after last game

AUBURN -- As soon as the Capital One Bowl is over, Tommy Tuberville and the Auburn coaching staff will turn their full attention to the final, frantic month of the recruiting season.

Signing day is Feb. 1, so the Tigers have about a month to firm up verbal commitments and fill out the 2006 signing day class.

Like last year, there should be few last-minute surprises. Auburn already has 15 commitments, and several targeted players are close to making their decisions.

Several of the standouts in the class have been in the fold since this summer.

Hoover-Spain Park quarterback Neil Caudle and Montgomery-Trinity defensive tackle Bart Eddins both committed in July and have attended just about every game and several practices since then.

Of the 15 verbal commitments, Auburn has two

quarterbacks, three receivers, one running back, one offensive lineman, five defensive linemen, one linebacker, one defensive back and one all-purpose athlete.

So what are Auburn's biggest needs?

First and foremost, coaches are seeking linemen on either side of the ball. Although Auburn is in good shape next season, depth could be a concern in 2007 if the Tigers fail to reload in this class.

Bryan Matthews, who covers recruiting for AuburnSports.com, said the Tigers could also add one more receiver and perhaps a linebacker and fullback.
