Protecting terrorists 2nd Amendment rights

This administration has no problem trampling on our constitutional rights but won't allow the FBI to use the Brady Bill to get information on terrorists. Terrorism be damned, we wouldn't want to rile Charlton Heston before the 2004 elections!!

Gun-purchase rules shield some terrorism suspects

Just don't try entering this country if you're an editor from a "coalition of the willing country!!

In this country we have the right to bear arms. If you are a citizen in good standing, that is your right. You want my guns, come get'em. If you are not a citizen in good standing, then they have the right to come and get you every time. BTW, the Brady bill is a load of ****. The statistical arrests can be counted on one hand as to how many arrests it has provided. The numbers of prevention are skewed too. Many are turned down for spurious reasons only to appeal with NO PROBLEMS. This is the american way. If you don't like it, you and your boyfriend, Michael Moore can move to the UK. They love his liberal ass over there.

And weren't you one of the idiots talking about how the patriot act was stripping us of our rights. But now its OK to strip law-abiding gun owners of their rights but not any of yours. Hypocrite.

No, CC. I'M the one pointing out the hypocrisy. It's OK to trample on every right in the constitution EXCEPT the Second Amendment. I've never advocated stripping you of your guns and neither does this article. If you'd bothered to read it, you would have found that the FBI wanted to use Brady Bill provisions to get information on "suspected terrorists" but was prevented from doing so by John Ashcroft, who invoked their Second Amendment rights. The hypocrisy here is coming smack from the right!!

I did read it. Ashcroft has stood by his beliefs from his first day in office. No terrorist used "guns" in the 9/11 attacks. And if your rantings and ravings stay true to fact, you'll see that there are limits to the patriot act. That is how a free america works. Unlike the one your "socialist" party would like to enact.

WHAT? Talk about hypocrisy!!! You guys have been screaming about the misuse of the Patriot Act ad infinitum - the government is collecting too much infomation, the government is abusing its powers, the government is circumventing the Constitution, the government is invading my right to privacy...blah blah blah. Now Ashcroft does something to STOP the collection of information and you guys are screaming FOUL??? PICK ONE!! Don't gun owners have the same right to privacy as everyone else? Who says they are more likely to be terrorists? Isn't that PROFILING?? Help! Help! I'm being repressed!! Someone call the ACLU!!!!

Poor Donut boy. Taken in again by liberal spewings. Go to:Univ of Virginaia Jeffersonian Library

and search for your "Patriotism is the highest form of dissent" quote. Guess what? NOT THERE. He never said it. And I don't think you can claim the University of Virginia (founded by Jefferson) would be wrong. I did find that quote attributed to Jefferson in many many places, but most of them were suspect. So I went to the horse's mouth.

The closest I could come is this: J. William Fullbright :"In a democracy, dissent is an act of faith."

Awww, thanks SO much for playing, here's your version of the Jeopardy home game as a consolation prize. Better luck next time in checking your sources before blindly taking the word of a liberal as gospel. I realize that will involve some re-programming, since many libs are just like you and will believe anything their leaders tell them ("I did not have sex with that woman...") ;)

Jenny, he should have been doing this from the get-go. The Patriot Act is the worst!! This is a set up for diaster. It should have never passed. Now they want Patriot II. NO WAY!!! Ashcroft should have never backed this legislation to begin with... he just did it to make everyone's jobs "easier" in his department, while trampling on the Constitution.

Channon, we aren't debating the Patriot Act - I was just pointing out to the libs that they can't be selective in what they scream about.

You need to check history. The first thing that Socialists do is start taking away your rights. (See PATRIOT Act) Conservatives are the ones wanting to hold people without just cause and without counsel. Conservatives are the ones who want to search your home, tap your wires and all without benefit of cause or a search warrant. Conservatives are the ones who think the government should control a woman's body. Conservatives are the ones who want to choose your lifestyle. Conservatives are the ones who want to know what you're reading and what organizations you belong to. Conservatives are the ones who want to label legitimate groups such as GreenPeace, PETA and others as "terrorist groups." It makes you wonder why they haven't labeled the "Right to Life" group as terrorists with all the abortion clinic bombings and sniper attacks on abortion doctors!! Maybe it's because they only consider their political enemies as terrorists the same way that they only consider a dictator a tyrant if he doesn't have oil to sell. Conservatives are the only ones who have abused their powers as Supreme Court Justices to overturn a federal election. Yeah, there's a Socialist movement afoot in this country and there's a lot of people brainwashed into following it straight into a Marxist regime, but it ain't the liberals!!

Legitimate? Man, you just blew what little credibility you had left with that statement. I am the biggest pro-anmal person I know - I do catch and release on gekos and spiders if they get in my house, I supported my sister's decision to do radiation therapy on her dog for cancer, I filter my dog's water, and have adopted more pound puppies than I can to think about - but even I think those PETA people are freaks.

It makes you wonder why they haven't labeled the "Right to Life" group as terrorists with all the abortion clinic bombings and sniper attacks on abortion doctors!!

Nope, conservatives protect their own - let's kill all the pro-abortion people and make heroes out of abortion clinic bombers. We'd NEVER call them terrorists...

From CNN:

Eric Rudolph faces federal charges in a 23-count indictment in connection with the 1996 bombing of Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park, as well as explosions the following year at a downtown gay nightclub and a suburban Atlanta clinic that performed abortions. He is also charged in the 1998 bombing of a Birmingham, Alabama, clinic that performed abortions.

In a statement Saturday, Ashcroft called Rudolph "the most notorious American fugitive on the FBI's 'Most Wanted' list."

"This sends a clear message that we will never cease in our efforts to hunt down all terrorists, foreign or domestic, and stop them from harming the innocent," he said.

The FBI put Rudolph on its "Ten Most Wanted" list and offered a $1 million reward, in 1998 when his pick-up truck was found abandoned near the scene of the January 29 bombing of a Birmingham, Alabama, women's clinic that performed abortions.

PS - Didn't you see my post on the other thread? Jefferson never made that quote you have in your signature...

Jenny,

That's funny. I just googled "dissent is the highest form of patriotism," and I got about a jillion webpage hits directly attributing the quote to Jefferson. Maybe you should do just a bit more checking before you go around declaring what Jefferson did or didn't say.

FWIW, I'm white and not on welfare. In fact, my salary this year will be just around $100k. Try another stereotype!!

The entire issue of this post was the hypocricy of the right, who want to abuse every right guaranteed us in the constitution in the name of fighting terrorism but will protect terrorists rights when it comes to the the second amendment. I know you right-wing nazi sympathizers will twist everything to keep from facing the stone, cold facts but the hypocrisy is on YOUR side of the aisle!!

Hello, Kettle?

This is the pot. YOU'RE BLACK!

The whole argument about hypocrisy and twisting and spinning is getting tired! Both sides are equally guilty of this. For one side to act as though they are soooo tidy and neat and always forthcoming, and refuse to spin is the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard.

Move on to the next subject!

BTW, he also made the statement while president, not while we were a colony, as one other conservative poster claimed earlier. I guess if you're a conservative and make a statement, it's supposed to be accepted as fact. Want a few links to the statement?

Link 1

This one's my favorite and EVERYONE should read it.

If you need more, I can provide as many as you need!! Thanks for using misinformation to try and deceive though. You'd be a good match for this Bush administration.

You say this after the Bush Resume Post that you so gladly supported until it was shredded!

Give it a rest, Donutboy! You lose more and more crdibility everytime you post something on here (as if you have so much to lose in the first place).

I like these, too. But, maybe they didn't say them, either. At any rate, I like them. B)

Awww, I lost credibility with a right-wing sympathizer. It really gripes you that I point out lies about the Bush administration, doesn't it? You conservatives spent eight years looking under every rock, spending $50 million and using 20 FBI agents, to find something/anything on Bill Clinton and all you could find was an illicit affair. He lied to the American people!! He needs impeached!! Bush lies on a daily basis but that's OK because he's a right-winger. This place simply drips with right wing hypocrisy!!

Go back and read the flow of the posts. I was referring to Jenny's cry for help from the ACLU. And anyone who has to refer to their salary usually doesn't have enough confidence in themselves to separate who they are from what they do.

BTW, how much of the 100K do you give to your precious underpriveliged? Or do you prefer to have the government take ours to give?

The sad thing is that the Bushies would only allow a few million for the 9/11 commission, and they're STILL stonewalling them at that. What kind of sense or moral responsibility is that?

You can also Google "Elvis" and get his current mailing address in Flagstaff, Arizona too, but that doesn't mean it is accurate. I said quite plainly in the post on the other thread that while this quote is widely attributed to Jefferson in many locations, it is not true - he never said this, according to the Jefferson Archives at the University of Virginia. My point is that just because you "google" something does not mean that it is fact. The internet is not run by perfect people - misinformation is diseminated as quickly as fact. I would take the Jefferson archives over some random Google source any day. It is as comprehensive a source for Jeffersonian quotes as you will find. The sources Donut links to are neither scholarly nor acredited. They are also partisan. Anyone with a computer, a web page and too much time on their hands can make a collection of their "favorite" quotes.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” MLK, Jr.

"There is only one form of political strategy in which I have any confidence, and that is to try to do the right thing and sometimes succeed..." Calvin Coolidge
