Over the last 494 games, Coach Gibbs defense managed to post three of the top fifty worst performances in terms of yards allowed.

Wisconsin was the 9th worst, Kentucky was the 38th worst and the Georgia game came in at 42nd. In comparison, Gene Chizik's 2002 defense worst three defensive performances ranked at 25th ( Arkansas ), 92nd ( UF ) and 99th ( USC ).

Of the top 50 worst defensive games since 1961, seven Auburn teams had at least 3 games in the top 50.

1976-4

1982-3

1985-3

1991-3

1995-3

1996-3

2005-3

*Bowl game stats did not count until the 2002 season

It should also be noted that the game is not the same as during the 60's and 70's, when the running game was the main offensive weapon. 400 yard offensive games were not as common as they are now.

Since 1981, Auburn has given up over 400 yards in 51 games. Here are the teams with at least 3 in one year.

1982-4

1983-3

1985-3

1991-3

1994-3

1995-4

1996-5

1997-3

1999-4

2000-3

2001-3

2005-3

Only 5 teams since 1981 have not given up a 400-yard game:

1986, 1987, 1988, 1992 and 2003

What are you using as a basis for the performance, yards per game I'm assuming? Or is it some combination of yards per game and points per game? I don't suppose you have the statistics on missed tackles, number of big plays, number of runs and passes over 5, 10, 20, 30, etc. yards throughout the years. Those would be really telling statistics.
