TUSCALOOSA - Mississippi State defensive line coach Brick Haley told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper Wednesday that he turned down an offer to join Mike Shula's coaching staff at Alabama.

Shula is looking to hire a defensive ends coach, following the Jan. 12 departure of Paul Randolph to become Rice's defensive coordinator. Shula has also interviewed David Turner, who is Vanderbilt's defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, and other candidates could emerge.

Haley told the Clarion-Ledger that he informed Shula of his decision Tuesday.

...

Haley, a Gadsden native, played linebacker at Alabama A&M from 1984-88. He has been at Mississippi State since 2004. He also recently coached at Georgia Tech, Baylor and Clemson.

Guess Bear's old stomping grounds STILL aren't the Mecca of college coaching that some claim, even with probation on the way out. In fact, apparently UAT isn't even as attractive as Starkville to some... :D
