TOP RETURNEES

OT DANIEL INMAN • 6-7, 328, Sr., Hope Mills, N.C.

Named second-team All-SEC by league's coaches and AP in 2005 ... Named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week against Vanderbilt ... Has started 37 consecutive games for the Bulldogs ... Named Freshman All-America by The Sporting News in 2003 and was Freshman All-SEC by league's coaches.

DE QUENTIN MOSES • 6-5, 248, Sr., Athens, Ga.

First-team All-SEC by league's coaches and AP in 2005 ... Second in the SEC in tackles for losses with 20.5 and sacks (11.5) last season ... Also logged 44 total tackles (35 solos) and 38 quarterback pressures (team high) ... Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week against Mississippi State and Vanderbilt ... Has 104 career tackles, 32.5 behind the line and 20.5 sacks.

TB THOMAS BROWN • 5-8, 183, Jr., Tucker, Ga.

Led Georgia for second straight year with 736 rushing yards on 147 carries and 4 TDs ... Had 144 rushing yards on 20 carries against South Carolina ... Named first-team Freshman All-SEC by the league's coaches in 2004 ... Led team and sixth in the SEC in rushing, with 875 yards on 172 carries in 11 games.

Serious Quaterback questions, yet they return three experienced tailbacks. One returning starter on the O-line. Rebuilding of the Defensive backfield with one returning starter.

Tech might have a chance to break the drought.

I've been asking that same question for years. During the 2004 season, UGA rushed for over 200-yards, 5 times. This was huge considering they only had a grand total of (2) 200-yard rushing games from 2002 & 2003 combined. I thought Richt was searching for more balance in 2004 and would do the same in 2005 but they dropped down to (2) 200-yard rushing games in 2005, despite starting a new QB.

I always thought UGA would be deadly on offense if Richt had a more balanced offense.

He has a tendancy to go away from his running game during crucial games despite having the horses to run the ball.

Well, I hope he continues doing whatever he is doing because with 3 East Titles/2 SEC Titles in his first 5 seasons as a HC.....he is doing something right.

Tech has been "going to break the streak" since 2001.

BTW, we have 2 returning starters on the OL and 2 more OL with significant playing time.

If we can win the East with 5 new starters on the OL, 3 semi-new starters doesn't worry me too much more.

SL02,

I here ya and don't get me wrong because I think UGA has been a good offensive team under Richt but "balance" would make you guys more difficult to defend. It might have cost you a MNC in 2002.

One of the reasons why Auburn is 5-2 against UGA since 1999 is the difference in the running game. Auburn has averaged 154 yards per game and UGA has averaged 95 yards rushing.

Maybe Richt's team could be tougher to defend if he ran the ball more but until we start sucking or losing, I hope we don't change a thing.

In 2002, we had the 8th best rushing offense in the SEC yet went 12-1 and won the SEC/Sugar Bowl. Balance had nothing to do with us losing to UF in that game in 2002. Musa had 100 yards rushing against UF in that game. Stupid penalties and mistakes did as usual against UF, 3 turnovers included and George Foster's personal foul...didn't help with Shockley's INT returned for a TD.

In 2005, we were #2 in the SEC in scoring offense last year with 162 yards per game on the ground.

We won the East in 2003 with the 9th best rushing offense in the SEC.

Since Richt got to Athens, AU is 3-2 against us which is all I care about when comparing the two. As long as we continue to win the East/SEC, I will be happy. Richt seems to have found whatever it is that gets us by in terms of the SEC.

Maybe balance would make Richt's team better but you can't argue with the success his offense has produced including the SEC Title game last year. It isn't always pretty but it gets the job done.

In 1997, with no running game, Auburn won the West and lost to Tennessee by 1 point. If we had a running game that year, we would have been in the MNC hunt and we certainly would have won the SEC.

Personally, I hope Richt keeps things just as they are.

You know speaking of UGA you would have thought by now AU and UGA would have met in the SECCG...it would be without a doubt the most rocking SECCG yet.

Any threat of a serious discussion of UGA football in this thread has been nullified by a biased UGA homer. Figures.

If I wanted a homer's opinion of UGA, I would have posted the thread on a UGA board.

Guest Tigrinum Major

Serious discussion is sometimes not our forte' here.

And Slink has paid his dues. And he had some serious discussion earlier. Which no one refuted with anything of substance. Slink is welcome here anytime.

Even if we do all hate him.

i thought he did a pretty good job of presenting a serious, "it's nice that you ask the question, but we've gotten 2 sec title rings and 3 east division titles in the last 5 years. so, i think richt is doing just fine," answer.

seriously, can uga use the run to set up the pass? sure they COULD. is it more likely that richt will find whatever is working offensively and run it into the ground? yes it is. when he's got a great running game, he runs. when he's got a great passing game, he throws. the offense could be more diverse, thus more dangerous. or maybe he's happy asking college kids to do one thing really well and riding that to a championship. whatever he's doing works.

oh and tech has as much chance against uga as bama does against us. it ain't gonna happen, for either. uga will again be one of the top two teams in the east, we'll play a great game in late november, and they might just win the conference. richt has never really given uga anything less; why would this year be different when he's returning the best dlineman in the conference, competent backs, a stud at wideout, and some hard hitters on the other side of the ball?

i'm no georgia fan, but they're going to be right there in the thick of it at the end of the year.

I actually think Stat is for the most part correct. Without a solid running attack, a team usually won't win anything. It just doesn't happen a lot, especially in the SEC. I was just pointing out that Richt has been VERY successful to start off his campaign with a running game that rarely is completely dominating stat wise.

I think Musa was a very good RB for us in 2002 yet we were ranked in the lower part of Rushing Offense that year.

Will this lack of offense cost us a NC?

You know, I hope not....I just think that we can do a 2002 season again with some lucky breaks with our current offense.

Only difference between UGA in 2002 and LSU in 2003 is the circumstances of other teams. Both of us lost to UF in the regular season.

Just the way the chips fall I guess

that may be, but i sure hope we don't "stuff the run" to the tune of 300+ passing yards again next year. made for a great game and all, but i don't mind the blowouts.

I think the 2004 UGA team had just as much if not more talent then the 02 or 05 teams. The 04 UT vs UGA game, UT knew UGA was going to throw it almost every down. I remember one or two series, Richt had Greene dropping back three straight downs. The result: 3 and out, 3 and out.

If you don't at least threaten to run, passing becomes difficult. Look at all of Spurrier's great passing teams of the late 90s, they still ran the ball effectively.
