Meyer Has Interest In Michigan Job?

Several of our sources have confirmed to us that Florida Coach Urban Meyer -- he of the 7 year, $14 million contract -- would be interested in the Michigan job if (when) Lloyd Carr is fired at Michigan.

Meyer, in stints at Bowling Green (2 years), Utah (2 years) and Florida (1 year) has an overall mark of 48-11 (.814) and is 29-9 (.763) in conference play as a head coach. Included in his 48 wins was a streak of 20 consecutive victories that was the second-longest in the nation at the time. His .814 winning percentage ranks seventh nationally among active college coaches during the last five years and his teams have been ranked in each of the last 33 Associated Press Polls, with 14 of those appearances in the top 10.

His first year at Florida produced a nine-win season and a January Bowl game victory, the Gators' first since 2001. Florida's final ranking of No. 12 in the Associated Press Poll was also its highest season-ending ranking since 2001.

Forget the fun and sun ... I want slush and pollution.

Per our sources, the buyout provisions of Meyer's contract are not too prohibitive to prevent him from moving to another gig.

He's a Midwestern guy. He's stated in the past that his dream job would be HC at either ND or UM. ND could have had him but they badly overplayed their hand & wrongly assumed he would take any old compensation package. As long as UM continues to have success at UF, he'll be in consideration for the UM job if/when Carr departs.
