I'm not so sure if "conservative" and "liberal", "Republican" and "Democrat" even belong in this discussion. I know many will disagree, but I think these people are so far out on the evangelical fringe to be fairly grouped into a politcal ideology.

While conservatives certainly aren't hospitable towards gays, they're not this bad. I know too many good conservatives to brand them with Fred Phelps' sins.

after losing two classmates in this tragedy i dont know what i'd do to these people if i saw them at a funeral. i'd probably have to be restrained and would very likely be leaving in handcuffs. i'm about as republican as they come, but these people are wayyy too much for me. they are wackjobs, no matter what side they're on. both the right and the left have them.

This bunch tries to do their putrid protests at the funerals of fallen soldiers. I haven't ridden with them yet, but there's a group of motorcycle riders called the Patriot Guard that runs interference in those situations, blocking the Phelps wackos from the mourners. Although this isn't military related, there may be a Patriot Guard chapter in that area that would be willing to ride escort.

You're dealing w/ folks who are flat out nuts. Cult folk don't think the same way as most folks. And that's exactly what this 'church' is, a cult. But instead of doing us all a favor and drinking their blend of special kool-aid and dressing up in their purple shouds, these inbred hicks look for ways to embarrass humanity. Snake handlers make jokes about THEM, that's how lowly and worthless the Phelps clan is.
