SDS hosts antiwar activists' presentation

Students for a Democratic Society at Tuscaloosa will host Report Back: A Meeting With the Iraqi Resistance with Kosta Harlan on Saturday at 4 p.m. Harlan is an antiwar activist and member of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization who recently traveled to Italy to attend the international conference With the Resistance for a Just Peace in the Middle East.

The conference marks the first time that leaders of the Iraqi national resistance have been able to speak in the West. Harlan will report on who the resistance is and why they fight; the current conditions of the U.S. occupation of Iraq; the birth and development of the Iraqi resistance; and the tasks of the U.S. antiwar movement.

This event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of less than $5. The event will be held in 301 Morgan Hall.

As one of my favorite bloggers put it (he is a bammer grad, btw...)

So what sort of people do you suppose would welcome a Marxist to campus to deliver a talk on the virtues of the Islamo-Fascists in the Iraqi "resistance?" The ones who are at this very moment trying to kill and maim as many American soldiers and innocent Iraqis as possible?

I can't believe Coach Saban is going to be addressing the crowd, as well.

Strange, huh?

Are you freeking serious? If Tommy Tuberville ever addresses a similar crowd, then I will cease being an Auburn fan.

Have any idea what Saban will say?

You know, I didn't expect anybody to actually believe me.

Yikes.

I think we should all go. Maybe we can have a protest like they have at fallen soldiers funerals. IMO These people are the lowest forms of life. I would be tickled if they were all lined up against a wall and executed for treason. I'm all for freedom of speech, but these A-holes go to far. I dare some M'Fer to try and talk to me or hand me some literature on their communist beleifs. :shoot:

Ok, I'm off my soap box for now...

Guys, sorry to disappoint, but it already occured (last saturday). The question is: are these guys against the war or for Iraq? Just because you are against the war, doesn't mean you want Iraq to win. But if these guys want Iraq to win - well just kill 'em.

They don't know what they're for.

I've seen their punkasses around campus before, too. Pathetic beatniks they are...

I hate to inform some of you of this, but you can be against the war and still be an American.I fought in Desert Storm.I'm against this stupid war.Don't get on here and tell me I am unpatriotic.I do recall some men named Adams, Hancock,Revere,Franklin.... if it wasn't for their protesting , we wouldn't be here.

I'm against the war, too.

And I hate to see the rational opinions of 70% of us be flushed down the toilet with the antics of SDS.

True, it's one thing to be against the war. It's another to be part of a group that advocates supporting opposing forces in a war against your own country. I believe offering aid and comfort to an enemy is the very definition of treason.

There is a HUGE difference between simply protesting the war, and allowing a Socialist who is supporting a movement INSIDE IRAQ to fight the "OCCUPATION" by US troops. We all know how peaceable those "resistance fighters" have been - in fact, so peaceable that many might actually call them INSURGENTS and TERRORISTS.

I don't know anything about this group or who they are.One of the great things about going to college is you get to hear different opinions and different view points. There is nothing wrong with going to hear someone speak even if you do not agree.Sometimes you say, hmmm, wow, that's bull&^%,or I have never thought of it that way.One poster mentioned the word treason in his or her post.To me the definition of treason would be the outing of an undercover CIA agent.

When I said that the definition of treason included offering aid and comfort to an enemy I wasn't just shooting off. That really is the definition of treason.
