Central Florida Player Dies After Drills

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A Central Florida redshirt freshman wide receiver died Tuesday after offseason conditioning drills on campus.

Ereck Plancher, of Naples, was pronounced dead shortly before noon Tuesday at a hospital, said Joe Hornstein, UCF's associate athletics director for marketing and communications. He said Plancher took a knee, became unresponsive and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

"We're still gathering some of that information at this point," Hornstein said.

UCF's spring practices weren't scheduled to start until Wednesday, but Hornstein said 82 players were there for coach-led conditioning. All practices are now canceled until further notice, Hornstein said.

Plancher, 5-foot-10 and 184 pounds, was a two-time letterman at Lely High School. He majored in business at UCF and was a high school National Honor Society member.
