He was given a year of eligibility back due to his injuries and that's the last we've heard from him.

I'm not convinced that the whole Varez Ward deal was anything more than some fan's pipe dream. If there ever was a quote from Ward I didn't see it. If there ever was a transfer story in the mainstream press, I didn't see it. If some member of Ward's family has an illness that would qualify Ward for a hardship transfer, no-one ever said who that relative was or what the illness was.
