JF3 can't hold onto the ball. Please don't put him back on kickoff's.

It's a surprisingly popular opinion that his straight line speed overrides any other qualities beneficial to effective kick returning.

Even among NFL GMs. Look at Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Man, ain't it the truth.

I've actually used him as my test case for trying JFIII out at WR. Many NFL teams have deep threat specialists. They're often both the fastest WR and the least sure pass catcher. Sammie Coates rarely catches a ball if he's not already 20+ yards downfield. You don't have to worry about their ball security as much because if they have the ball at all, they're probably already behind the defense. If they do somehow fumble the ball, it's going to happen 30+ yards downfield, and they're only going to have a chance to do that once or twice a game at most. Low risk, high reward.

But returning kicks presents a much higher risk. Those fumbles happen on the wrong side of the field. Can't have it.

Definitely, and you have to account for it. Regardless of ball skills, you can't just let someone streak down the field wide open.

I think some just feel coming into year 2 as a P5 assistant coach is too early to brand him for life on what he will or won't be. People grow as they age & can change.

It is part of our never-ending super double secret drama that must be an ongoing story in AU football every year.

So I bet you wouldn't like the idea of a read option w./ Mr. Carlson on 4th?

I wouldn't mind KMart returning kicks.

What kind of kick return policy do they have?

Depending on the situation, I'm not opposed to it at all! A real football person can tell me why it won't work, but can I see an RPO where the tight end releases and the holder has the option of running it, pitching it or passing it? Sure.

I wonder if JFIII would be any good at kick Returns. He certainly has the speed and moves. Just don't know if he can catch.

Well that, his ball security issues, and his affinity for not wanting to be hit make him a questionable candidate at best.
