Movies that A King's Speech beat: Social Network, True Grit, Winter's Bone, Inception, Black Swan, The Fighter...

I hate to copy you but ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?

No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood in the same year... not even fair. I actually liked several of the winners since then, though. Hurt Locker, Argo, Birdman, Shape of Water...

I liked Moonlight, but it wasn't my pick for best picture that year. But yeah, 2017, another example: Moonlight, Arrival, Manchester by the Sea... all better than anything I saw this year.

Didn't realize you were this kind of film buff, brother! McWifey and I always try to watch the Oscar contenders every year. We used to actually go see them all in the theater before we had kids. I still LOVE going to the movie theater.

I WAS SO SO SO sure because of all the other movies you named from that year that were up for Best Picture I LOVED!!!!!! Especially Inception and Winters Bone that I would get a ALL TIMER of a movie for Best Picture that year and then WE GOT FREAKING THE WORST ONE!!! A Kings Speech. LIKE COME ON!!!!!!! I feel like the Academy gave us all for the most part mainstream movies for the Noms but then they went with some artsy intellectual period piece as the winner to put us in our place! lol. SMH. What was your favorite movie that year?

HELL YAH It does Not get much better than No Country For Old Men and ANOTHER iconic Daniel Day Lewis movie. I should of specified more I HAVE NOT Since No Country of Old Men had my favorite movie of the year actually WIN Best Picture. Juno was a close second for my second favorite that year even over there will be blood. 2007 was just a great great year for movies. One of my favorites since I became a huge movie buff. You are little older than me what is your favorite crop of Best Picture noms?

Last year pissed me off just because I thought it was clear and obvious to anyone that EVEN THOUGH most of the other movies nominated were great movies in their own right that 3 billboards was head and shoulders above all and the obvious winner. I GUESS NOT!!! lol. They at least gave them a lot of other wins last year. My favorite movie recently even over 3 billboards that was nominated for a Oscar was come Hell or High water in 2016. That is one of my all time favorites. Of course it did not have a shot in hell to win. So I at least never got my hopes up! lol

OMGSH HELL YES brother!!! I LOVE movies. I TO love going to movies. It is still something so special and majestic going to the theater. I love the smell of the popcorn and I LOVE watching all the previews and seeing what is coming out several months from now. It is a fun experience. I love all different types of movies. Oscar Bait movies, summer blockbusters where you just turn your brain off and enjoy yourself, The mini Christmas blockbuster rush but my favorite time of the year for movies is during the fall. You Got football on saturday and sunday and I got a movie on tuesday night when it is 5 bucks all day. The week flys by.

What kind of movies do you and the wife enjoy the most going to see together when you get to go?

If you want to watch a butt-clinching movie, check out Free Solo.  This is a documentary on a guy free climbing El Capitan without any safety equipment whatsoever.  EC is 3,000 feet, straight up.  First person to ever do that.

PS, it won an Oscar last night for Best Documentary.

I actually loved Shape of Water. I'm a total Guillermo del Toro fanboy, but also I felt like it was just such an homage to movies itself. My only issue with it was Octavia Spencer playing a bit of a caricature, otherwise I really loved it. I liked 3 Billboards too, though.

As for best crop, it's that one that King's Speech ended up stealing the statue from. I seriously couldn't pick a favorite from that group. Would've been 100% good with just about any other nominee winning. Amazing year for movies.

Great job describing the theater experience. All of that. Also, a buddy and I were just talking about how it's pretty much impossible to really watch a movie and be focused on it at home. At the theater, though, it's just you and that screen. Aw man. Love it. Especially now that so many theaters have recliners. HEA. VEN.

Wifey and I are a fairly traditional couple. We like to see anything that gets really great reviews (ie awards contenders) together. She will see some of the more romantic and feminist stuff, but I'm not scared of those movies if they're good. (Ended up loving My Week with Marilyn and Amour, etc.) I'm a little more likely to go see a good action flick. Oh, and she doesn't do horror at all. (Get Out = 100% worth the hype IMO)

My favorite movie ever is Goodfellas. For me the best movies have some sex, drugs and rock'n'roll... and action... and cursing... and cool visual stuff... etc.... but are also smart and say something.

SO TRUE you are!!!!!!!!!!! Literally ANY of those would of made for one of the best winners for best picture ever and we got the 1 freaking winner that DID NOT BELONG!!!!! Still SALTY AF about that!!!!! lol. Time DOES NOT heal all wounds.

AND CLEARLY SOME PEOPLE should not go to movies. I am about to sound like a old man BUT PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAASE do not go if you are just going to be on your phone the whole got damn time or talking. Like WHY DID YOU EVEN COME?!?! That light that shines from peoples phones during movies is just DISTRAAAAAAAAAAACTING. You are so right about at home you cannot concentrate. You got a million different things distracting you and pulling you away from the movie. You are right about the theater. Just you and the screen. YESSSSSSS!!!!! On the money again loofy!!The theater is honestly more comfortable than home now!!! It is divine.

Haha so what is your go to review site?! I will admit I am a sucker for rotten tomatoes. I generally live and die by their reviews. O DUDE NOOOOOOOO macho alpha card will be played by me. A Good movie is a good movie. I do not care at all if it is a rom com or a chick flick at all if it is good and ENTERTAINS me. That is my number 1 rule Entertain me.O DANG NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Get out is amazing!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH O well Get Out can just be for the Bro's then!!!! lol. She is def missing out. I am very very intrigued by Jordan Peele's next movie coming out soon speaking of Get Out. WOOOOO!!!! I really really hope it is good. Speaking of "horror" Quiet Place was absolutely so well done. Jim from the Office can direct a freaking film!!! Well freaking done BIG TUNA!!!! haha

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE De Niro, Pesci and of course Scorsese. YOU GOT EXCELLENT taste in movies fam!  A lot of my all time favorite films came from him. Big BIG Scorsese and De Niro buff. I was just watching Casino last week for the 90123903490309234 time as a matter of fact. Goodfellas is a got dang superstar of a movie. That movie keeps getting better every time I watch it. My favorite movie ever is Smokey and the Bandit!!!! I guess I am just more of a simple man than most with that choice loofy!!!! lol

Check out Shot Caller on Prime video.  Wall Street dude gets drunked up, gets behind the wheel and accidentally kills some people in a car wreck.  Gets sentenced to prison and learns he has to become a bad guy to survive...and he becomes a really bad guy.  Pretty rough movie, but sobering (no pun intended).  Gave it a B+/A-

I don’t know.  Supposed to be on Amazon Prime.  It was made in 2017 so I bet it is on Netflix.

First time I watched Lebowski I had no idea what was going on.

It gets better with every viewing. You pick up on a lot of subtleties in acting and dialogue.

I was so pissed when the little teaser add this past month turned out to be for a ******* Stella Artois ad.

Rotten Tomatoes is great. Gotta love the 247-style composite, lol. I also leave a lot of that to McWifey. She works in the arts and is actually pretty connected through her former boss and really has her finger on the pulse of the entertainment scene. (She's met some heavy hitters through her former job. I even got to meet a few of them. /vague-brag.)

Quiet Place is on my list for sure. So is Us. That looks even creepier than Get Out.

Best part of Oscar night was definitely the teaser for The Irishman. So. Psyched.

If Smokey and the Bandit is your favorite movie, then you also have fantastic taste in movies, my friend. Damned near a perfect film. Funny story connecting some dots: McWifey got a selfie with Burt Reynolds and he put his hand on her ass for the photo. RIP YOU DAMNED LEGEND!
