Terrance Dedrick Named Alabama JUCO Player of the Year

Terrance Dedrick was named the 2012 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Junior College Player of the Year at the annual ALABCA Convention on Friday night.

Dedrick is in his first year at Auburn after playing two seasons at Shelton State Community College under the direction of Bobby Sprowl. A 5-foot 10-inch right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Tuscaloosa, he was a 2012 NJCAA Second Team All-America after hitting .366 with 32 RBI and going 6-0 with a 2.80 ERA and six saves in 35 innings. On the base paths he was a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases while on the mound he struck out 44 and walked just 11. Shelton State won the 2012 Alabama Junior College State Championship and finished third at the JUCO World Series, where current Auburn infielder Damek Tomscha won the title with Iowa Western CC.

"We are extremely proud that Terrance has been honored as the 2012 Alabama Junior College Player of the Year," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "He certainly is a well-deserving recipient who not only put up tremendous statistics but also was a key leader for Bobby Sprowl's Shelton State team. We are excited about his future as an Auburn Tiger."

Dedrick is the third straight Junior College Player or Pitcher of the Year to come to Auburn, joining Andrew Morris (2010, Florida) and Ryan Tella (2011, California).

Auburn opens up fall practice on Friday, Jan. 25, at 3pm. The first game of the 2013 season is set for Friday, Feb. 15 against Maine at 3pm.
