Is Harvard better than Bama???

I don’t think computers should be used in any way what so ever to judge college football or any other sport. When Auburn supporters give a crap whether Toledo beats Bowling Green, something is screwed up big time.

According to Sagarin's ELO-Chess (BSC component), Division 1AA Harvard is #38, Stanford is #40, BYU #41, ALABAMA is #44, New Hampshire is #45, William & Mary #50. Does anyone think ALABAMA would have a hard time with any of these teams? Even with all their injuries, I think Alabama could almost name the score against those teams

How can the garbage that these computers are spitting out possibly be considered as the deciding factor on determining the Orange Bowl participants?

If I was writing the computer program for the BCS, there would be more points given for beating nationally ranked teams and fewer points for beating competitive unranked teams. Games against teams with no chance would all count the same--whether it was Auburn vs. The Citadel, Oklahoma vs. Houston or USC vs. Colorado State.

When the computer programmers who have proclaimed themselves football experts have a deciding voice in who plays for the National Championship something is truly amiss. They should kick the computers out the door and use only human polls. Humans can watch the games and make judgments in the relative differences of the teams. Computers ONLY count numbers, and they count them in the way their programmers tell them to count them. When the same weight is given to Bowling Green vs. Toledo as is given Auburn vs. Georgia, the system is inherently wrong.

You people just don't seem to understand that these computers are always right. No one has ever questioned them before. Why should we question them now?

Please note the sarcasm.

PS. Where does this Jeff Sagarin live anyway? I'd like to reason with him.

It makes no sense. Arizona State was ranked 8th, they just lost to Arizona ranked 85th. Granted an upset without the considering the computers, but to have a 2 loss arizona state team in there at 8th was ridiculous. This loss just proves it.

I don't think there is any reasoning with him. ;)

Computers are great for a lot of things, but ranking football teams is not one of them. You can look at cold hard numbers all day long, and come up with who should win. But a computer can't take into consideration factors such as momentum, rivalries, weather conditions, etc.

But looks like there are six computers who say we are not very good this year, and they may end up having the final say. It sucks, doesn't it?

LOL! This is the reason why computers are a bunch of BS... which make the BcS!

No reason that a computer should choose the national champion. But until we get a playoff, there is no way around it.
