aubiefifty 16,823
Auburn's Tashawn Manning moves from defense to offense Updated Mar 6, 8:23 PM; Posted Mar 6, 8:18 PM By James Crepea jcrepea@al.com Two days after Gus Malzahn said Tashawn Manning would be at defensive tackle, the redshirt-freshman moved to offensive guard. Manning worked with the second-team offensive line early during Tuesday's practice, Auburn's third and his first on the other side of the ball. Fellow offensive lineman Mike Horton said the change officially happened Monday. "I think he's taking it well, so I think he's just trying to get coached up," Horton said of the 6-foot-3, 320-pound Manning. "(Offensive line coach J.B.) Grimes is just telling him the basics, just 'step right. Step left.' Once he gets the details down, he'll be great." AU practice observations: DB injured, DL switches to OL A recap of observations from Auburn's third spring practice Manning's move to offense is the second player to switch sides this spring, with Noah Igbinoghene working mostly at cornerback in addition to his role as a receiver. Manning gives Auburn more depth at guard, where Horton, Marquel Harrell, Tyler Carr and Brodarious Hamm are the other options this spring. "I think he thinks it's the most beneficial thing," defensive tackle Derrick Brown said. "He knows that the coaches wouldn't do anything that would mess up his career. He's taking it in and working with it. ... "He definitely caught coaches' eyes. (Defensive line coach Rodney Garner), coach Grimes, they were telling him good job." Manning redshirted last season after he enrolled last January following eight months of chemotherapy treatments for acute promyelocytic leukemia, which he was diagnosed with on Thanksgiving 2015. The former three-star recruit from Apopka, Fla. was among the players cited by players and coaches for their play during bowl practices. The hope is he can bring the same physicality he showed on defense to the offense and develop skills to play at guard. "He definitely physical," Horton said. "He's physical, so as long as a guy has that physicality in him, you can make him play O-line. You can teach him the details and he'll get there, but I think he's going to be good too." Sending a message to the others that they need to be more physical? Sounds like this young group of OLs is just too soft.

AUinGA44 265
Why wasn’t Brodarious Hamm practicing yesterday? I didn’t see him in any videos and he wasn’t with the 1st or 2nd team OL. Lots of big chatter about how well he did last year on scout team and in bowl practice.
