Immigration officials deported the spouse of a U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan last week, leaving the couple's 12-year-daughter in Phoenix, then abruptly reversed its decision on Monday when the deported man was allowed to return to the U.S.

Jose Gonzalez Carranza, 30, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers last Monday on his way to his welding job and then deported to Nogales, Sonora, early Thursday, according to Gonzalez Carranza and his attorney, Ezequiel Hernandez.

Gonzalez Carranza was married to Army Pfc. Barbara Vieyra, who was killed on Sept. 18, 2010, while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. She was 22.

During an interview, Gonzalez Carranza told The Arizona Republic that he was allowed to re-enter the U.S. through the DeConcini port of entry in Nogales, Arizona, on Monday afternoon.

He said he was then driven back to Phoenix, where ICE officials dropped him off at the agency's headquarters near downtown.

ICE officials offered no explanation for the decision to allow Gonzalez Carranza to return to the U.S. But Hernandez believes the reversal was triggered by media attention the deportation received.

Thought we were going to be deporting the "bad hombres." Seems a bit strange to round up a gold star widower.

Abolishing ICE is sounding more palatable with every story I read.

Would make more sense to just abolish the immigration judges presiding over removal proceedings. Abolish Congress’ plenary power over immigration and judicial oversight. Abolish INA provisions. Abolish portions of the code of federal regulations.

And for that matter, who cares about the the number of individuals ICE routinely perp-walks onto planes so said perps can be taken out of this country because of the harm they sought to incite against our nation? Only one side of the coin matters, right? To hell with the good that immigration officials do, after all it’s not even newsworthy, right?

****

Look, I’m pro-immigration. Stories like the OP are rightly frustrating. I’ve had the honor of helping people obtain asylum here - yes, under the current administration believe it or not. As a matter of fact, I plan to keep working with Asylum seekers and Refugees for the rest of my life - and I won’t take a single dime for doing it.

But blanket “abolish ICE” proponents are truly ignorant of reality. ICE is not perfect, but lordy if you knew about the monsters they regularly protect the United States from, I think you’d have a different take.

But NOLA, that dosnt fit into the Talking Points narrative of some. I mean if it takes more than 10 seconds to espouse your entire view, than what has twitter, instagram, & every-other-social-media taught us?

Trump 100% Bad.
Democrats 100% Good/Bad
Republicans 100% Bad/Good
Socialism 100% Good/Bad
Capitalism 100% Bad/Good
No need to look at two sides to any story.
Just ceaselessly parrot whatever Fox/Info Wars/Breitbart/MSNBC/CNN/Vox/Buzzfeed/Democrat Underground told you 15 minutes ago.
Life is so easy when you dont have to actually THINK.

Life is a messy interface with a lot of grey colored ideas and entities that we all wish were Black & White. Life is not that way...
When someone asks you a question about your opinion on ______, your first reaction should not a one-three word answer. (Okay, on a few things maybe) It should be a long deep breath while you consider how much of your thinking you have the time or the patience to discuss.
