Because Auburn will need Nix this year. Also, Joey is a freshman too. If Gus makes it clear he is riding solely with Gatewood, Nix is likely to transfer as he will have to sit for at least 3 years. One of the promises that landed Bo was the prospect of early playing time, I'm sure.

All that's besides the point. Nix is simply too good to redshirt.
