Sorry if posted before.

It will be 5-10 years before Biloxi Gulfport is back in busness.

Bridges gone, Casinos moved across HIWAY 90 and dropped on homes and motels. Hard to even find landmarks.

Very Long, great video.

Tragic and heart breaking. I can not begin to imagine the pain and suffering that those unfortunate souls have to endure. I'm completely numb with shock.

The reports are getting really really scary. I hope I am hearing misinformation. Mega prayers and good vibes to those in the affected areas.

All I can say is.............. Let's be the nation that we are an help in any way we can. There are a lot of people who will be moving to other areas and leaving those "homes" for good. Many of them have had it! And others will try to deal with it, because it's all they have. This is a tragic event that can only be described as terrible.

Man, those folks are lookng for a home, for a job, for a meal.

I thank God it was not me. I know as Americans we will rebuild and will help those that need it. But man, to lose your eintire life's work in one morning storm....

All I can say is WOW.

The Veterans place there in Gulfport, where indigent Veterans go to basically live out the last days was the pinkish building at the beginning of the video. I dont know if you recognized it but it was about 80% gone. They have nowhere to go and usually no families to help them out.

The Dad's that were working in those Casinos, in the restaurants, owned small businesses there, what do they do? I know they will get insurance money. But what do they until then? What do they do for a living? What if the insurance just pays off the mortgage and their entire careers are gone?

I really feel for those guys.

My mom lives in Long Beach about 2 miles from the beach. I thank god that she was able to get out and up to north Alabama before the storm hit. I am deployed so I have not been able to see any video and very few pictures. I can not even view the video link in this thread. From what I can read on the internet I do not expect my moms apartment to still be there. I graduated from LBHS and I have a a lot of friends that still live in South MS. I remember hurricane FREDRICK in 79 and another one in 88, I think the name was EMILY but not for sure. I have also been through a couple very strong TYPHOONS in GUAM and I thought all of those were bad but they were nothing compared to this one from what I am hearing. Hopefully with any luck my mom will still have a place to live. If she does not, she is already to move to North Alabama and leave the gulf coast.

Sorry Fuzzy, there's no other way to say this: the damage to the Miss coast is total & it is shocking to see. The video is from a news helicoptor that's flying along the coast so, it's hard to judge what the damage is to homes two miles inland. From what I could see on the video, the immediate houses/structures within a couple hundred yards of the beach were just flattened ... lots of bare concrete slabs showing with debris all around. A couple of the huge previously floating casinos are well inland hard aground. The one shown still on the water looks like a total loss. The storm surge must have been terrific. I'm old enough to remember Hurricane Camile and what it did to the Miss coast in 1969. Maybe it's because of all the development that was built up along the coast but the damage from Katrina sure looks worse to me. Also, when you consider Katrina's damage extends from New Orleans to Mobile then I've got to say this hurricane will prove to be even worse than Camile.

The clean-up will take months if not years. Re-building? That's anybody's guess. You know, maybe it's time to consider the coastline to be a buffer against storms and not build anything right up against the waterline. One thing is for certain -- new stricter building codes will be in place before anything is re-built in this area. Also, insurance raes will be a lot more expensive.

this thing will no doubt be the most costly and most destructive natural disaster ever recorded. It is like a war zone and its only getting worse. Hurricanes don't have aftershocks but this one is having a huge aftershock with conditions (flooding, looting, prison uprizings) worsening by the minute. Sad, Sad, and very aggrevating situation.

Yes LSU has canceled the game for this weekend and I would not be surprised if they do it next weekend as well. I for one, am for the decision. Some Tiger fans are against it saying "we need to move on"....but how can you move on and start tailgating and partying when the PMAC and every other facility at LSU is full of homeless refugees and they see you outside drinking, cooking, laughing, calling "home", watching TV, pissed off because JR threw a bad pass.......Yes I have been waiting for football season all year, but now its not the priority. I would feel too guilty out there having fun (or trying to anyway) while hundreds of thousands are devastated.

Some people compare this to 9/11 saying that baseball in New York resumed 11 days later.......this is in NO WAY comparable to that situation. In 9/11, people lost their "place" of employment. Katrina took peoples "jobs", homes, and entire town or city.

I don't see anything getting "back to normal" or "being able to move on" for quite some time.

Geaux makes a great point about the moral issues involved in playing a game at that time. The full extent of this tragedy probably still won't even be known by this Saturday. A grim fact is they were saying this morning that they won't start assessing the death toll until the water recedes, whenever that is, and start finding bodies.

And people want to play a football game 90 miles down the road???

The practical side of the issue, or lack thereof, also has to be considered. I imagine a huge percentage of the fan base would be coming from those devastated areas or at least through those ares to get to the game. It's just not going to happen. Rescheduling this game is the right thing to do.

I only could watch the first few minutes before I decided I had seen enough of that. We need to make sure we keep those people in our prayers for awhile.
