Strong rumors:

Muschamp:UGA Player, LSU DC

Pagano: CTT Friend, Miami Hurricane asst, Cleveland Asst.

Mild Rumors:

Charlie Strong: UF Co-DC?

Rawndy Shannon: Miami Hurricanes DC

Left Field:

Woody Widenhofer

Wayne Hall

Bill Oliver

The good thing? I would take any of these guys at some point in their careers. Hall, Oliver, might be a little behind the game now. But these are all great calls.

I'm going to go ahead say that I believe 98% that it's Saban's boy.  Which I would be happy with  :cheer:

I once again second that.

Would need too coach the DB's, right? Do all of these guys specialize with the secondary? (As opposed to the previously-mentioned DuBose, you specialized with the secretary)

Guys I'm a big fan of bringing in Muschamp but should something happen any replacement picked by tubbs is a step in the right direction. We couldnt even line up on D this year .I credit tubbs for being bold enough to know this is not the right gut and pushing him to job hunt.I gurantee theres no long line for his services but tubbs is classy enough to let him leave with some face.Bottom line is Tubbs knows we have a real shot at the mnc next year if we can get someone to push the right buttons on :au::thumbsup: D.

I know a lot of Auburn fans don't know his name, but Tyrone Nix at South Carolina is one of the best new DCs in the business. I watched him coach many games here in Hattiesburg at Southern Miss and he is one of the best. He led the Southern Miss defense that upset a lot of good competition. Rumors here in Hattiesburg, have him as the top replacement for Jeff Bower's job whenever Southern Miss officials decide that New Orleans Bowl trophies aren't enough. Tyrone Nix is very good, and I would like to see him in orange and blue.

Just a hint from Mark Murphy...

Chuck Pagano is a 21-year coaching veteran at the pro and college level. Pagano, 44, spent the past four years as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Browns.

In 2003, his unit helped the Browns tie a franchise record for fewest passing touchdowns allowed with 13. Under Pagano's tutelage in 2001, the secondary accounted for 28 of the Browns NFL-leading 33 interceptions, which also set a new team mark.

Pagano coached the secondary and was special teams coordinator at the University of Miami (Florida) from 1995-00. During the 2000 season, his secondary was tabbed the nation's best by Football News. His corps did not allow a passing touchdown over the last 27 quarters of the 1999 season. As special teams coordinator for the Hurricanes, his squad blocked 39 kicks in 59 games, including a school single-season record 12 blocks in 1996.

The Boulder, Colorado native attended Wyoming, where he was a four-year letterman and two-year starter at safety. Pagano began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at USC from 1984-85 before serving in the same capacity at Miami in 1986. He was outside linebackers coach at Boise State from 1987-88, then coached defensive backs at East Carolina (1989), and Nevada-Las Vegas (1990). In 1991, Pagano was defensive coordinator at UNLV. He returned to East Carolina to coach defensive backs and outside linebackers from 1992-94.

Pagano's family includes wife Tina and their three children: Tara, Taylor and Tori.

Sounds like a good two for one special and a very solid coach!

Left field? I think Wayne and Bill are in foul territory.

Hey, did he play for Pat Dye at Wyoming too? It looks like there could be some overlap in the timing if he was a Graduate Assistant in 1984.

EDIT: According to the bio here he played at Wyoming 1980-1983, so he played for Coach Dye's only year at Wyoming.

Interesting, in a six degrees of separation kind of way.

We need a good DC who is willing to stay here for a few years. One year and out is not good for us - even if we get the best coach in the business. Look as Chizik in his first year at Texas - boy, they really didn't stop USC, did they? Hopefully, CTT will hire the best DC available who can be with us for five years or more.

Guys. Remember "Dagger in the back" Oliver and the AU lawsuit. Bill Oliver is famous for causing problems and what the DON"T need is a contentious coaching staff. Harmony is one reason for our success. Same deal with Wayne Hall who made a choice to get out of coaching after coach Dye years. Lets move on and get someone who is capable and who FITS IN....WDE! :au:

And he shares Tubs' habit of giving his kids names that start with "T"...

Weird...

Wow, thanks for the info. It sounds like Pagano would be a perfect fit if he is willing to come back to the college game and stay a while. If not, Charlie Strong, Tyrone Nix or Muschamp would all be good candidates as well.

Is USM's defense any good??? They get scored on by CUSA teams. Also, Strong gave up big points at UF against mediocre offenses.

Muschamp probably wouldn't want to come to Auburn.

That leaves Pagano who I would be very happy to get, IF we can.

Here's the situation though...he's not a DC in the NFL, he's a position coach. Saban just brought in Dom Capers as a defensive specialist and Muschamp is still coaching DBs. Perhaps Muschamp wants to 1) get back into the college game and 2) be a DC again. Seems Auburn would be a great spot to fulfill that.
