Four Tigers Honored By Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook

Kenny Irons, Tim Duckworth, David Irons and Kody Bliss were named to the magazine's preseason all-conference

May 30, 2006

AUBURN - Senior running back Kenny Irons has been named the Blue Ribbon College Football Yearbook's SEC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year while three other Tigers have been honored as first-team all-conference selections, it was announced Tuesday.

Joining Irons as preseason All-SEC selections are senior offensive guard Tim Duckworth, senior defensive back David Irons and senior punter Kody Bliss.

Kenny Irons rushed for 1,293 yards as a junior, his first season as Tiger. The Dacula, Ga., native rushed for more than 100 yards in eight games and scored 13 touchdowns -- including eight in a five-game stretch from Oct. 22-Nov. 19.

The honor is the third in recent weeks for Irons, who was selected by Lindy's Magazine and Athlon Sports as a second-team preseason All-American. He was a Coaches' and Associated Press unanimous All-SEC First-Team honoree in 2005.

Duckworth returns in 2006 after earning second-team All-SEC honors in 2005 by both the conference's coaches and the Associated Press. He posted 22 1/2 pancakes through the team's first 10 games. Duckworth was named a preseason third-team All-American by Athlon and a first-team All-SEC member by Lindy's.

David Irons, the older brother of Kenny Irons, led Auburn with 11 pass deflections in 2005 en route to Associated Press All-SEC second-team honors. He finished with four or more tackles in six of his 11 starts. Like his brother, Irons was named a preseason second-team All-American by Lindy's and a first-team All-SEC by Athlon Sports.

Bliss is Blue Ribbon's first-team punter after averaging 43.3 yards per punt in his first three seasons with Auburn, which ranks him third in team history. In 2005, Bliss earned Coaches' and Associated Press All-SEC First-Team honors after putting 14 punts inside the 20 and averaging 44.9 yards per kick. He set a career-high with a 63-yard punt at LSU. Earlier, Bliss was recognized as a second-team All-American by Athlon Sports and Lindy's.

Auburn opens its 2006 season when hosting Washington State on Sept. 2 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in a game that will be seen on ESPN.
