Geology & Geophysicist

Summer Intern Project Timbalier Bay Field

STRUCTURAL, STRATIGRAPHIC AND PRODUCTION STUDY OF THE LOWER “S” AND UPPER “D” SERIES SANDS IN THE WEST-CENTRAL AREA OF TIMBALIER BAY FIELD.

Scope: - The proposed area covers approximately 9 square miles and contains a total of 42 wells: 8 producing, 16 plugged and abandoned and 18 inactive.

Tools: - The project area is covered by a 3D seismic survey. The well information, including logs and production data are loaded into SMT, Petra and SmartSection project databases.

Objective: - Quantify the remaining opportunity for oil and gas and make recommendations regarding future recompletions or plugging and abandonment of the 26 active and inactive wells.

Tentative program

Week 1 Become familiar with interpretation tools, organize project and database.

Week 2 Establish subsurface correlation framework.

Week 3 Complete stratigraphic analysis and establish fault picks.

Week 4 Integrate seismic and subsurface interpretation.

Week 5 Integrate production history.

Week 6 Finalize interpretation into internally consistent well/seismic/ production story.

Week 7 Identify undrained reservoirs and bypassed pay zones.

Week 8 Quantify remaining opportunity.

Week 9 Make recommendations regarding future recompletions and plug and abandonment.

Week10 Prepare and give presentation on the results of the study.

Requirements

Basic understanding of subsurface structural and stratigraphic interpretation.

Experience with seismic interpretation helpful but not required.

Experience with well log interpretation helpful but not required.

Learning Take Aways:

Under the guidance of mentors, the candidate will gain exposure to the basic approach to, and many phases of, a comprehensive field study designed to enhance the value of the field by updating the geologic interpretation with the most currently available data. This includes correlating and evaluating well logs (identifying and quantifying net sand, oil and gas from well logs, as well as identifying faults and their magnitude); interpreting seismic data; integrating subsurface well control and seismic data into a comprehensive interpretation of subsurface structure, identifying and depicting hydrocarbon traps and reservoir boundaries in maps and cross sections; building various isopach maps in order to quantify remaining reserves; identifying most likely wells for re-completing to reservoirs of interest; interfacing with reservoir engineer to quantify the expected value of such re-completions; and selecting new drilling locations (surface locations, targets and deviated well trajectories) if the results of the study warrant. The candidate will gain experience in designing and presenting to management a technical oral presentation of a field study, selecting and preparing the displays necessary to illustrate the key points. This program is designed to benefit both the candidate and the company, and can be modified as needed to fit the candidate’s background and skills.

Land Department

Petroleum Land Management Intern

The project involves oil and gas operations in offshore Louisiana state waters. The Land Intern will be involved in many aspects of petroleum land management with regard to exploration, development and ongoing operational activities in one of the oldest producing fields in the Gulf of Mexico, in which Maritech Resources, Inc. operates approximately ninety wells. The project will involve the following aspects and tasks:

Reviewing government unitization orders and unitization agreements relative to existing units in the field

Assisting in the design of a unit database to be used in the management of unit date to facilitate the unitization process with regard to new well completions I the field

Collection and inputting unit data into a unit database

Assisting in the development of detailed land plats with overlays reflecting unit boundaries of commonly unitized zones throughout the field

Assisting in the unitization process with regard to new well completions, as required

Reviewing state mineral leases and plans for development periodically submitted to the State

Assisting in the preparation of reports required by the State as required

Participating in meetings with geologist, geophysicists, engineers and operations personnel with regard to ongoing operations within the field

Participating in general land-related activities relative to the field, as required

Assisting in the organization of land files, (i.e. lease, contract and division order files), acquired from Maritech’s predecessor in title

This project will afford the Land Intern a broad perspective of petroleum land management with regard to offshore operations in state waters and the maintenance and administration of state offshore leases.
