Saban's Hiring

of course, one truth to the hiring of Saban is that it will increase the intensity. Tuberville, Fulmer,

Miles, Meyer if they are competitive will work harder. uat had to get a high profile coach to even compete

on Auburn's level.

Uh guys ya'll missed the memo, since Saban's hiring Jay Jacobs has been trying to get the football program dropped down to Division 1-AA. Last I heard we are looking to become the third team from Alabama to join the Ohio Valley Conference, bring on EKU and Murray State.

You look down the list of the winningest teams in the country the past 3-4 years and you see USC, TX and AUBURN. We went 11-2 this year without a lot of hoopla. In fact, I would say the general mood was that it was about what was expected. So I would have to say that Auburn Football is already at the highest level. West Vance is the team that is trying to change levels, we just need to stay where we are. If the recent recruiting success is any indication, the future looks just as bright as the recent past. A great coaching staff, great players, great facilities, and great fan support has equaled success for Auburn. There is little doubt that Slick Satan is a good coach, but whether or not he will turn things around for the Mullet Nation remains to be seen.

Slick Nick WILL be able to turn them around. The problem is, will he be able to turn them around IMMEDIATELY. That is what the mullet nation will be expecting in return for their four mil per year investment. Nick will be on the shortest leash in the history of coaching. The bammers can say they like the changes (no access to players, no booster meddling, ect.), wait until they lose a game and NIck gets grilled in a press conference. Saban will hate that he ever heard of UA and the feeling will be mutual. God help him if he loses to an underdog next year.

We gave a bumbling, inept coach like Shula four years. Barfield had a better record at Auburn than Shula did at Bama. What happened to him? Were Auburn fans too impatient? How long did it take for Pat Dye to be successful at a perenniel loser like Auburn? Why were they trying to run Tuberville out of town after the '03 season?

Guys, trying to win an argument with buttplug is like trying to win a fistfight with a quadraplegic. To ignore his inbred ramblings is by far the best way to go.

Just for the sake of quoting facts, not because I expect you to listen to them:

Barfield was coach for five seasons at Auburn (1976-1980). That's more than Perkins (4 seasons), Curry (3 seasons), Dubose (4), Franchione (2) , Price (0 seasons), Shula (4), and Saban so far. And we didn't fire Barfield less than a year after giving him a raise & contract extension for a 10-win season, a la Shula.

A small group of Auburn powers-that-be were guilty of the underhanded way Jetgate was handled. When the mass of Auburn fans heard about it, they rose in revolt. Today, most of those powers-that-be are gone or significantly chastised and weakened. Meanwhile, Tuberville was the third winningest coach in the country for the last three years, trailing only 2004 BCS Champs USC (who may have some of those wins forfeited and their title revoked) and 2005 Champs Texas. He was the only coach to beat the 2006 BCS Champs. It would seem the Auburn masses had more sense than the handful of PTB's on that plane.

Oh, he's also 5-0 against his biggest rival since then. :poke:

Well, it good to see that "FLEETS" (phospho soda) still works. The butt plug just got unplugged...... spewing his crap all over our board again.

BP, not trying to be unreasonable here at all, but anyone that thinks that his 2003 team/season was even an attempt is just dumb. He came into possibly the worst situation NCAA history short of the guy after the Marshall plane crash. He did not get a spring game, etc. Controversy, coaching changes, probation, confusion on playcalling, talent, poor recruiting, recruiting to fit different systems, Hell- PLAYING Fran recruited players!

CMFS got, AT BEST, three years, no more.

By comparison, ND gave Faust 5 years, but then again, they only gave Willingham 2-3 years.

We gave Barfield 5 years, BTW:

1) He was a lights out recruiter, He had Brooks, Cribbs, and Andrews in one back field.

2) He was great at his previous job, with great aasts.

3) He was one of the "HOT" coaches when we hired him.

4) He was living off his past accomplishments, etc.

Perry,

The only perennial loser around here is you. You're a self effacing loser who has nothing better to do with your life than blog on an Auburn board and degrade our program. Your self loathing has reached such epic proportions that you feel the need to come here and belittle Auburn just so you can feel a small ounce of pride in your otherwise miserable existence. Before now, the only ounce of satisfaction that you ever got out of life was your ability to live vicariously through a bunch of 18-23 year old kids but that all went away when they started sucking on the field. Now, you're back on this board because your buttboy Mal Moore paid a mercenary coach $32 million to beat Auburn and you assume that this money will buy championships. You have no more of an idea what it takes to win championships than I do about what it takes to put a theatrical production together. Even if Bama does win again, and that's a big if, it's not like you will ever be a part of it, moron. You'll still just be a 40-year-old loser who is unemployed and still lives in his mother's basement.

It boded well for Auburn when ESPN was announcing Shula's firing and $atan's hiring with tickers across the bottom of the screen showing that Auburn had won 5 in a row. There's alot of people in the country who KNOW the same things we do. . . that is, Bammer hired Saban to beat us. Us! Measley old Auburn who hasn't won a championship in so many years and blah blah blah.

Hmmm, it's gotta sting them just a little with all their talk about their own superiority to have us eclipse their (chuckle) "greatness?" Not only eclipse them, but pass them by waving five fingers!

That said, I don't think we should gage our success based on what they do. They haven't been doing anything right for the past 5-6 years, and we have surpassed them right now. We need to focus on Auburn things. Screw them and their problems. They'll have a mountainload of them come fall. Meanwhile, we should be looking into how we can get SOOO MUCH TALENT onto the field during a game, and thinking if we want to reserve hotel rooms in Atlanta for this December. (not trying to screw up the hoodoo, just thinking realistically.)

Their problems are exactly that, their problems. Who Cares? Will it motivate us? Sure it will. Just like it will motivate everyone else they play this year to flat out destroy them. I'm talking 20-30 point defeats!

WAR DAMN EAGLE! Football season can't get here fast enough!!!!!!!

I gave BG a hard time about Shula quite a few times so I consider myself semi-partial in these arguments....

But Saban will eventually turn Bama around....into a consistent SECT contender....it may take 2 years though and in the 3rd...they finally challenge.

Saban is a great college coach, imo...any LSU fan disagreeing is simply doing it out of anger that he is at a rival school....AU fans know more then anyone how much they loved him.

He won't recruit with the ease he had at LSU but he will eventually find a groove.

And I hate saying all this because Saban had 3 excellent Georgia recruiters who IMO will be taking a few guys possibly away from UGA in that future.
