Erique Florence

Jeffrey Lee of AuburnSports.com has a new article up about Erique and reports AU leads big. It's premium content but I'm making an exception for this quote...

Auburn's A-Day Game was real nice," he said. "It is way better than Alabama's A-Day Game. Definitely. You get treated a lot different at Auburn. They make you feel at home. You just get the sense of how different things are at Auburn.

That is a great quote. But how did he attend both, if they were on the same day? Did he attend Bama's in '09 and Auburn's in '10?

That is exactly what he did.

Some chatter...

I know there are a ton of rumors out there right now about Valley High's Erique Florence, a top AU prospect, being kicked off his team.

...

Here's what I know: @oanewspreps has confirmed Florence went through a rough spot with the team last week but is back with the team.

...

Florence is playing QB this year but projects as a safety at the next level. He's maybe 1 of the top 3 prospects in the state.

...

Rivals ranks him the No. 2 safety in the country, ESPN ranks him the 57th best overall prospect.

...

Florence has offers from pretty much everyone on the planet. He recently said Auburn was his No. 1 and Alabama is his No. 2 at the moment.

Just thought you might want to see today's facebook posting. This kid is not stupid.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Erique Florence DID NOT get kicked off his HS team. I know a lot of rumors have been swirling over the last few days

A little more background for those who missed this 'story' ...

Scout’s ‘Bama writer Andrew Bone tweeted that he’d been booted from Valley’s football team, giving Tide fans just the juicy opportunity they'd been waiting for to claim–everybody, say it with me!–”WE DIDN’T WANT HIM ANYWAY. Nevermind that the original report wound up refuted by Auburn’s recruiting writers within a matter of minutes, of course, or that the original tweet was deleted.

And the smack down...

So what really happened?

Here’s what I know: @oanewspreps (Editor’s Note: Hey! That’s me!) has confirmed Florence went through a rough spot with the team last week but is back with the team.

I talked with Valley coach Mike McCombs on Saturday morning and he said Florence—along with a couple of other players—went through “some problems” last week, but as of Saturday morning, everything was copacetic.

Valley High coach Mike McCombs told me that top Auburn target Erique Florence will not play defense "unless the game is on the line."

...

Florence will play quarterback this year. He is being recruited as a safety and is considered one of the best at safety in the nation.

...

Florence currently has 37 offers, per McCombs. Auburn is at or near the top of his list.

What sense does that make? keeping him rested for offense?

Is that a change from Auburn being the clear leader, or just a different way of putting it?

His announcement will be televised live...

Florence to announce decision on ESPN

Valley’s Erique Florence has officially gone big time, agreeing to announce his college decision on ESPN.

The Rams’ senior, who’s one of the top safety recruits in the nation, said he received a phone call from ESPN on Monday evening asking if it could send a crew out to Valley on National Signing Day on Feb. 2.

Florence has yet to make a decision on where he’ll be playing next season, but his final three remains the same: Alabama, Auburn and USC.

USC: Florence made an official visit to sunny California this past weekend, where he said he was just amazed by the rich history and tradition that surrounds the Trojans’ athletic programs. He said attending USC would put him in the spotlight, noting how much media he would be surrounded by in Los Angeles and how close he would be to athletic landmarks such as the Staples Center.

The only thing he didn’t like so much about USC were its facilities, he said.

Auburn: Living just down I-85 from Auburn, Florence has had the chance to enjoy the hype surrounding the Tigers’ BCS National Championship. The Auburn football program’s “family atmosphere” has really drawn him in, and after an undefeated season by the Tigers, Florence couldn’t find anything bad to say about the program.

“I really can’t find anything I don’t like about it,” he said.

Alabama: Florence said the coaching staff in Tuscaloosa is what has kept the Crimson Tide on his radar. While Alabama and Auburn have similar SEC programs, Florence added that distance from home won’t play a factor if he has to decide between the two.

Don't fall for the Facebook posts of Erique Florence, kid is #Auburn bound unless I'm missing something major. #USC gave it a shot.

@rivalsmike

Not a fan of hawking these recruits on Facebook. He hasn't said anything other than he wishes everyone would leave him alone on there.

It was in reference to a post he made about being "USC Bound" ... he has since removed it.

If I remember right, Cyrus is announcing at 8:05 AM and Florence at 8:15 AM. Could be an amazing 15 minutes to lead off signing day for Auburn.
